A three-decade friendship chronicling Picasso’s postwar years On April 5, 1953, the French photographer Lucien Clergue (1934–2014) met Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) at a bullfight in Arles. Clergue shot several portraits of the artist and showed him some of his Polaroid pictures. Two years later they met again in La Californie, the artist's house in Cannes, and a friendship was cemented that lasted until Picasso's death in 1973. In those years, they met on around 27 occasions, and Clergue documented each of them, registering small moments of the artist's everyday habits, his studio and his work.In 2016, the Museu Picasso in Barcelona bought Clergue’s Picasso-related photographic oeuvre: almost 600 black-and-white images in silver prints. “We have not loved life.” Winogrand made the photographs in this book in defiance of this self-appraisal. A loving spirit charges and elevates picture after picture, riding an emotional circuit that sweeps from empathy to affection to outright elation, extending across two decades of work made mostly in broad daylight, on the street, on the road, at the beach, in color. Garry Winogrand is known primarily for his spontaneous and energetic street photography in black-and-white. What is lesser known is that Winogrand also shot more than 45,000 color slides between the early 1950s and late 1960s. These photographs were often taken between assignments, when the photographer, working on his own, developed and refined an approach to his medium that was increasingly open, independent, and radical. He routinely photographed with two cameras strapped around his neck, one loaded with color film, the other with black and white. Winogrand Color presents 150 photographs selected from the archives at the Center for Creative Photography by the American film director, Michael Almereyda and former Museum of Modern Art curator, Susan Kismaric. It is the first monograph dedicated to the artist's rarely seen color work.

57 is the debut monograph from Francesco Gioia, a self-taught photographer born in Florence and based in London. The work is street photography, but Gioia treats the street as raw material. His training is in collage, Bauhaus composition, and the European avant-garde of the 1920s, and that grammar runs through every frame. Form, color, and accident are arranged rather than simply found. The images hold a single position: that beauty in the present is concealed, and surfaces only for an attentive eye. Gioia photographs the ordinary and lets it stay ordinary, then finds the structure inside it. His work has been recognized internationally, including awards judged by Magnum photographers Richard Kalvar and Bruce Gilden, and has appeared in The Guardian and The Washington Post. 57 is his first book. The third volume of Study is dedicated to French photographer Romain Laprade’s photographs of Dakar. Editor-in-Chief Christopher Niquet has for years admired Romain Laprade’s composed yet spontaneous images. After unfruitful months spent developing a book project together around a specific Dakar building, they decided to explore the Senegalese capital for a volume of Study. In May 2022, Romain Laprade flew to Dakar and spent days walking around the city documenting its architecture. The resulting images are a silent homage to a place filled with architectural wonders. Whether it be the facades of institutional building or of private homes, Laprade captured the eclectic beauty of this West African metropolis.
