Our goal as the Disability Justice Caucus is to generate a shift in social work from a non-disabled focus to a justice focus that does not treat disabled bodies as an asterisk but as central in our curriculum and our field. We promote disability as a site of culture, resistance, and collective power. Disabled people are experts of our own stories, and our perspectives should be central to any conversations about our experiences. Our caucus’s goal is to fill in educational gaps within CSSW that sideline disabled voices, history, identity and community. Disability justice is a care-orientated framework. Through the Disability Justice Caucus, we hope to create a new framework of care within CSSW that more fully addresses the needs of all students through education and advocacy and that challenges the binary between non-disabled and disabled bodies.

Our Mission Statement

DJC will be hosting virtual meetings via Zoom as a safe space to talk about disability justice, identity, and community. All are welcome!
