A deity DOES NOT have to “call out to you” in order for you to worship them. You choose who you want to worship. A lot of people want to jump straight into communicating with a god, but it’s very important to lay a foundation of offerings, worship, prayer and research into BOTH the religion/deity AND divination itself, as it is a separate skill that needs to be learned and perfected.

It’s best to address a god by 3 of their epithets when praying to them. You can find epithets on theoi.com. You typically pray to a god to thank them for all they do, and if you’ve offered to them and prayed to them for a while, you build kharis (a bond basically). It means reciprocity. It's important to give the gods offerings in return for their help, it's a relationship of giving and taking.

If you’re a complete beginner and have NEVER read greek mythology before, I would recommend you start with anything from Stephen Fry. Keep in mind these are retellings, and not entirely accurate to the myths they are based on, but I think they are a great starting point!

If you are a little bit more advanced and want to read the most accurate translations of the myths, I recommend Robert Fagles. Keep in mind this is pretty complicated in it’s phrasing and may take a little bit longer to read.
