Question 1

What conditions can you treat?

Accepted Answer

So many! Simplest answer— if it has a neuro-musculoskeletal component (meaning it comes from an issue with the nerves, muscles, joints) I can treat it. Whether it’s a new issue or an old one, related to the spine or extremities, I can help you.

Question 2

Do I *have* to be adjusted?

Accepted Answer

Not if you don’t want to! If you prefer not to be adjusted, I will take that into consideration when building your treatment plan. It’s important to me that you feel comfortable with all elements of your treatment plan. And if I don’t think you’re an appropriate candidate for manipulations (aka adjustments) I will say so. I have many other tools and techniques that I can incorporate into your plan and achieve the same results.

Question 3

I don’t want to be adjusted, what else can you do?

Accepted Answer

-Joint mobilizations
-Soft tissue therapy like MRT
-Acupuncture and electroacupuncture
-Craniosacral therapy
-Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization
-Exercises and stretches
-Activator
-Local vibration
-TENS

Question 4

What is craniosacral therapy?

Accepted Answer

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a deeply relaxing, light touch osteopathic technique. The practitioner uses 5 grams of pressure to assess and treat the craniosacral rhythm and flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) supporting and nourishing the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord.)

CSF flow improves when our nervous system is in parasympathetic mode, aka rest and digest. High stress and anxiety can keep our nervous system stuck in sympathetic mode, aka fight and flight. CST aims to gently shift the nervous system into rest and digest so CSF can flow and help heal the brain.

CST can be helpful for people with headaches, migraines, concussions, fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, sleep issues and so much more.

Question 5

What is chiropractic care?

Accepted Answer

Typically chiropractic care consists of patient education about their condition as well as passive and active care.

Passive care is the treatment that you passively receive! It usually consists of manual therapy techniques. Manipulations, also known as adjustments, may be done to the joints of the spine or extremities (ie: shoulder, hips, ankles etc) when appropriate. Mobilizations for the joints help with range of motion without aiming for a cavitation (aka the popping sound.) Soft tissue techniques act as a focused massage for muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Acupuncture and craniosacral therapy are also forms of passive care.

Active care is what *you* do to support your recovery and wellbeing. Exercises, stretches, and lifestyle modifications are all forms of active care.
