mxkwa

mxkwa is an independent artist making indie rock, slowcore, shoegaze, pop punk, punk rock and alternative music. mxkwa was born in Ontario, Canada, where he taught himself guitar, drums, and music production at a young age, and started focusing seriously on music in late 2025. The name “mxkwa” is an alternative spelling of Makwa (pronounced muk-wah), which means “bear” in Ojibwe, a Native language. In Ojibwe culture, the bear is often associated with strength, courage, and protection, as well as introspection and a deep connection to the land. In 2026, mxkwa released singles such as “miss you,” “insomnia,” “misery,” and “Delusional.” His work centers on shoegaze, slowcore, and indie rock–inspired instrumentals, blending atmospheric production, layered guitars, and emotionally driven soundscapes. In addition to these styles, mxkwa also explores pop punk and punk rock, showcasing a versatile approach to alternative music.
