The 8 galleries of EAST - alongside additional fringe venues - host a biannual Roath Gallery Weekend every May and November.

The next RGW, will run 15 - 17 May 2026, and will see a varied and vibrant programme - with late night openings and special events scheduled throughout the weekend.

Is every venue open all weekend?

Accepted Answer

No. Although most venues are operating additional hours during the weekend, not all venues are open every day. We encourage you to download the RGW programme or check our instagram before planning your trip

Are the galleries free to visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all of the galleries and venues are free to visit and there's no need to make a booking or call ahead.

Whether you have a strong connection to the arts or you're stepping into a gallery for the first time, the Roath Gallery Weekend is the perfect opportunity for a spot of gallery‑hopping.

What’s the best way to travel between venues?

Accepted Answer

If you’re able to, we encourage visitors to explore the Roath Gallery Weekend on foot. All venues are within easy walking distance of one another, making it a relaxed and enjoyable way to experience the trail.

By Car / Parking
If you are coming from farther afield we suggest parking at Penylan Library (CF23 5EE), which offers up to 2 hours free, with additional paid hours if required. There are also numerous on-street spots surrounding Roath Park Rec.

By Bus
Several bus services travel to Roath. Key routes include services towards Albany Road, City Road, and Roath Park, frequently provided by lines 28, 29, 30.

Are there places along the way for coffee/lunch?

Yes, Roath is full of great independent coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Do I need to start at a specific venue?

Accepted Answer

No, you can make your way around in any order, but do check opening times before planning your route. All venues are within easy walking distance of one another with the majority grouped around Albany and Wellfield Road. Even the longest stretch, between Ffotogallery and g39, is still under a mile.

Is Roath Gallery Weekend suitable for all ages?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all of the participating gallery's are suitable for visitors of every age, including families with young children. We simply ask that children remain supervised during your visit to ensure an enjoyable experience for all.

Are the venues accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs?

Accepted Answer

The majority of venues offer easy access for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Albany Gallery and Oriel Makers have different layouts that will affect accessibility, so checking ahead is helpful. Visit the individual gallery links on this Linktree for more information.
