As your constituent in Houston, I am writing to urge you to oppose the construction of a physical border wall through Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park.
On February 17, 2026, the DHS waived 28 federal laws—including the Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act—to fast-track 150+ miles of construction. This allows the government to bypass all environmental and cultural impact studies for a project that threatens a $63 million annual tourism economy in Texas.
Building a 30-foot steel barrier in a region where 1,500-foot canyons already provide natural security is a massive waste of taxpayer funds.
I ask that you advocate for high-tech "Smart Wall" surveillance rather than a physical barrier that will permanently scar our state’s most iconic natural treasure and disrupt vital wildlife and water resources.
