I chose to go with a local company for my solar installation, even though Sunrun had competitive pricing and I was also considering Tesla. In hindsight, that was a mistake.
Volt has virtually no support staff to follow through after installation. Applying for rebates and obtaining the necessary documentation has been extremely frustrating — emails go unanswered and phone calls are not returned. I even had to ask Carbon Solutions Group (my SREC handler) to contact Volt directly to correct their mistakes. It has been nearly a year, and my rebate is only now getting sorted out.
If you have questions about production, documentation, or any system issues, don’t expect timely responses. Post-installation support is critical in solar — especially when your panels are warranted for 25 years. You may need assistance at any time.
My advice: go with a larger, established company where there is accountability and dedicated support. With smaller installers, you may end up doing all the legwork yourself — including paperwork, follow-ups, and post-installation coordination. Be very careful when choosing your installer.
