95 points DecanterAt the southern Montagne's most celebrated address, the grand cru brut sometimes gets forgotten next to the top wines and the more accessible entry range. In truth, based here on the 2020 vintage, it's the emblematic Egly style. It's almost imperious in its balance between restrained, pure raspberry and pear Pinot fruit, gentle Chardonnay brightness, deep but unobtrusive fruit concentration and glossy fresh nut and bitter almond complexity from lees and barrel ageing. Complete, complex and effortless. Spice, menthol, licorice, orange peel and sweet red cherry build in the glass. The Riserva has gorgeous depth and plenty of inner perfume to match, but the tannins clearly need time to soften. The Paolo Bea Montefalco Sagrantino Pagliaro 2020 is a full-bodied red wine from the Umbria region of Italy, known for its robust flavors of dark fruits, black cherry, and earthy undertones. This wine exhibits high tannins and acidity, typical of the Sagrantino grape, offering a complex and structured profile that enhances its aging potential. 97pts Vinous (2019 review) Exotic from the first tilt of the glass, the 2019 Montefalco Sagrantino Pagliaro is youthfully intense, with a blend of rum-soaked cherries and a cascade of sweet spice, mixing dried violets with cloves, ashen stones and blood orange. This is elegant and refined, with silken textures and admirable weight, all supported by fresh acidity, as masses of ripe blueberry blend with sage and a salty tinge of minerality. A balsamic twang saturates the palate as the 2019 finishes staining and long with a saturation of primary concentration and a pleasantly bitter tinge that lingers over a bed of fine-grained tannins. Just a baby today, the 2019 is geared for the cellar. This is a spellbinding vintage of Pagliaro. - By Eric Guido on August 2024 Grape: 100% Sagrantino The fabled local grape of Montefalco is the Sagrantino and the Pagliaro vineyard, situated at 1,300 feet in altitude, is dedicated in large part to this grape variety. The harvest of Sagrantino normally occurs during the second half of October. The cuvaison extends for forty to fifty days. The wines is then aged for one year in stainless steel, another two years in large Slavonian oak barrels and, finally, spends one more year in bottle (the wine, like all Bea wines, is unfiltered) before release. Annual production from the Pagliaro vineyard is 15,000 to 20,000 bottles. Appellation: DOCG Sagrantino di Montefalco Production: 15,000 bottles Average ABV: 15% In the Vineyard: From the the Pagliaro vineyard which faces south and southwest at 1300 feet above sea level (400m ASL) in limestone-clay and gravel. Densely planted Cordon trained vines, low yields, manually picked for harvest, usually in late October. Small amounts of Pagliaro are also included depending on the vintage thus giving the wine both East and South-West exposures. Winemaking: After crushing and destemming, wine ferments spontaneously in stainless-steel tanks. Maceration lasts 40-50 days. Vertical basket press wine blended back into the free run with malolactic following in tank. Maturation: Time on lees is 12-24 months in steel tanks (depending on the vintage) followed by 24 months in large Slavonian oak botti. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sulfur: 40-55 mg/l total sulfur (medium for low sulfur wines)

93 pts VinousThe 2022 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru has more depth and fruit concentration compared to the Clos des Angles. The nose displays a mélange of red and black fruit, pressed flowers and a touch of loam aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, just a slight lactic note on the entry, segueing into a more marine-tinged latter half. A pinch of black pepper appears toward the finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. - By Neal Martin on March 2024 (91-93) RP Wine Advocate (Kelley) Offering up aromas of raspberries, plums, sweet spices and petals, the 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet is medium to full-bodied, pure and lively, with refined, powdery tannins and a fine-boned, elegant profile. (91-94) Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy **** Mid crimson purple. The vineyard is just above Clos des Angles, and bears some similarity on the nose. However, the fruit is a little deeper, and darker on the palate, good acidity here, just a little more structure all round. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Oct 2023. Domaine Marquis d'Angerville owns a large plot of 1.57 hectares on this terroir. Located under the Clos des Ducs et les Pitures, the soil of this climate, very superficial in the upper part due to erosion (barely 30 cm of earth), is made up of decomposing marly rocks. This mixture of clay and limestone gives finesse and body to the wine. The slope is quite steep, starting just above the Clos des Angles, and climbing up to the Chemin des Pitures, halfway up the hill.

95-97 VinousReview Date: 01/2025The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru is a kindred spirit to the Les Suchots on the nose, sharing the same purity and utterly entrancing delineation. The two-thirds new oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is beautifully balanced with a bit more grip and maybe a little more backbone than the Les Suchots, yet there is so much harmony and poise toward the finish. Outstanding.(NM) 94-97 Jasper MorrisReview Date: 01/2025Just a little deeper in colour, a fresh pale purple. The bouquet expresses the joy of Malconsorts, floral as well as with an exquisite darker cherry fruit and as usual this is by far the most complete wine on the palate with a deep cherry expression, just more red cherry than black, but with a sense of harmony that excites. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024. 93 BurghoundReview Date: 01/2026Note: from a .74 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines. There is a coolness to the airy and beautifully layered aromas of spice, the essence of various red berries and jasmine tea where a hint of dried orange peel can be found. While there is excellent punch and an almost pungent minerality to the middle weight flavors, they are not particularly dense though there is outstanding depth and persistence on the firm, austere and unapologetically built-to-age finale. While certainly quite firm today, this is a wine that I suspect could be reasonably approached after only 5 to 8 years.*Burghound Outstanding!*

Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Malconsorts 2023

95 pts Wine Advocate Drink Date: 2026 - 2034 The village red 2024 Navatalgordo comes from 2.5 hectares in different plots in the village, where the soils are very stony and have a lot of quartz. There are some new vineyards; they managed to buy some and some belong to growers, though some of those are worked by the Comando team. 2024 was warmer than 2023 but with more finesse than 2022. It was marked by the frost the 23rd of April, a night with a full moon and lots of humidity because it had rained a lot, and they lost 60% of the grapes. The remaining grapes were picked at the right time, despite the dynamics of the harvest, when the nights were quite warm. They finished harvesting earlier and managed to keep the alcohol levels under control. Most of the 2024s come in at 14% alcohol but keep the poise and balance. The wine is quite primary, and there's a little more concentration and a gentler profile. It has abundant, slightly more Italian tannins, with slightly grainier chalk, and it's a little more rustic, very much marked by the soil with a low pH. This is the village wine to keep for a while. 5,246 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025. The village 2023 Navatalgordo has grapes (mostly purchased from regular suppliers) from five different parajes or lieu-dits from the stony and quartz soils from the village. It has a stony personality but a perfumed nose of violets and violet pastille, with silty tannins and good grip. It matured in oak vats to polish those village tannins. It's very complete and opens up in the glass nicely, as it's a little more austere than the one from Villanueva. This is the more tannic of the village reds. 9,965 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024.
