Question 1

How do I install the locks? Do I need any tools?

Accepted Answer

A complete installation guide is included with each product. For the adhesive version, thoroughly clean the surface, then use the included plastic "cradle" or installation helper to correctly position and press the lock against the cabinet frame, ensuring proper alignment. No tools are needed for installation, but optional stainless steel screws are included in some packs for a more permanent hold. These locks are not designed for metal cabinet doors or drawers.

Question 2

Why isn't the lock popping up (self-adjusting)?

Accepted Answer

This is a very common, but easily solvable question. The lock contains a magnet and can be affected by iron or metal components (like hidden screws, nails, or staples) inside the cabinet door, which can be present from the manufacturing process and are often invisible.

Your Solution: Recommend that before final installation, move the lock around the inside of the door while it's in the "locked" position. The lock will not pop up if it detects metal. Instruct them to keep moving it to a different spot until the lock pops up, then install it there.

Question 3

Can the locks be unlocked without the magnetic key?

Accepted Answer

Not easily. The magnetic key is required for normal operation. Some online videos suggest using a strong magnet as an alternative, but standard fridge magnets are usually not powerful enough

Question 4

Will the locks work on all cabinet and drawer types?

Accepted Answer

Vmaisi locks work on most wooden cabinets and drawers with a maximum door thickness of 2 inches. However, they are not designed to work on metal cabinets or drawers due to magnetic interference. They work best on flat surfaces but may not adhere well to slippery materials like Formica, or rough/old paint layers, and can sometimes be affected by the cabinet's internal lip.

Question 5

The adhesive tape isn't sticking. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

The bond's effectiveness depends heavily on surface preparation. The strongest adhesion comes from using the included screws, but for adhesive:

For existing lock: If the adhesive has already failed, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned and dried before reapplying fresh adhesive or using a high-strength tape.

For new installation: Advise customers to ensure the cabinet surface is completely clean, dry, and free of any furniture polish or oil before application, as this can weaken the bond. Clamp the pieces together for at least 20 minutes to help set the adhesive

Question 6

What if I lose a magnetic key?

Accepted Answer

Replacement keys for Vmaisi magnetic cabinet locks are available for purchase on major online retailers like Amazon. If a customer cannot find the official replacement, they can also try searching for "Vmaisi magnetic lock key," ensuring it is compatible with their specific lock model.

Question 7

How strong is the lock? Can it keep out pets (cats/dogs)?

Accepted Answer

Vmaisi locks are tested to resist toddlers and even strong pets. Customers have reported that the lock can stop a 30‑lb (13.6 kg) dog from opening cabinets.

Question 8

What is “metal interference” and how do I test for it?

Accepted Answer

Hidden iron screws or nails inside the cabinet door can interfere with the magnetic mechanism. Before sticking, put the lock in locked mode and move it around the door. If it pops open by itself, that spot has metal interference – choose a different spot.

Question 9

Will removing the lock leave marks or damage my cabinet paint?

Accepted Answer

A: Not if you follow the proper removal steps. The locks use strong 3M adhesive tape, but when removed carefully (with heat, gentle peeling, and the right residue removers), the paint underneath should remain intact. Always test any method on a hidden spot first.

Question 10

What’s the safest way to remove the lock without ruining the paint?

Accepted Answer

A: Follow these steps for best results:
1	Peel gently – Lift a corner with your fingernail or a plastic card (never metal).
2	Pull at a 180° angle – Slowly pull the tape back flat against the surface, not straight out.
3	Use a hairdryer – If the tape resists, warm it on low/medium heat for 30–60 seconds to soften the adhesive.
4	Remove residue – Wipe away leftover glue with a soft cloth and cooking oil, rubbing alcohol, or white vinegar.
5	Clean and dry – Finish with mild soap and water.
