We are offering a FREE Taster Session so you can try Archery out before you buy our Beginners course!

It takes place on 28th September at 15:00 - 18:00 in Slater Hall.

Question 2

Beginner's Course

Accepted Answer

If you're new to Archery, or have done it casually in the past, you are required to complete our Beginners Course to qualify for joining the club.

The course consists of 4 sessions, but a minimum attendance of 3 sessions is needed to successfully complete the course.

The course costs £22 in total, paid on the door at your first session. These take place in Slater Hall, at the times below:

Wednesday 1st October: 19:30 - 22:30
Sunday 5th October: 15:00 - 18:00
Wednesday 8th October: 19:30 - 22:30
Sunday 12th October: 15:00 - 18:00

Question 3

Safety Shoot

If you've been a member of an Archery club in the past, and have had ArcheryGB insurance before, then this is the course for you!

We will check that you can shoot safely, and inspect any equipment you bring along to make sure it's safe. Don't have a bow? No problem! we can gladly provide one if needed.

Please book online, and also fill out the sign-up sheet in the linktree before arriving, so that we know what sort of experience you have.

The session takes place on 25th September at 18:00 - 20:00 in Slater Hall.

NOTE: This course is NOT for beginners to the sport. If you are a beginner, you are kindly asked to attend our beginner's course first before joining.

Question 4

How do I join as a Beginner?

If you would like to join the club, you are required to have completed our Beginner’s course, the details of which are on our Linktree.

Once you have attended at least 3 of the 4 sessions, you will receive an offer letter if you are invited to join the club. At this point you can buy our membership and start shooting!

If you chose to buy membership without receiving an offer letter, then you will unfortunately be unable to shoot. All members are required to complete a beginner’s course, and we may not be able to refund you.

Question 5

How do I join as an Experienced Archer?

If you have shot with a club before, or completed a Beginner’s course with a club, then you are invited to attend our Safety shoot. The details of this are on our Linktree.

Once you have attended, you will receive an offer letter if you are invited to join the club. At this point you can buy our membership and start shooting!

If you chose to buy membership without receiving an offer letter, then you will unfortunately be unable to shoot. Experienced members are required to have received an offer to join, and we may not be able to refund you.

Question 6

Who can join the club?

The University of Birmingham Archery Club is open to all UoB Undergraduate students, Postgraduate students, Postdoctoral researchers, and Alumni of the club.

We are also able to accommodate UoB staff, but please get in touch first to check.

Unfortunately we are not able to accept students from other Birmingham Universities, or UoB Alumni who have not previously had UBAC membership.

Question 7

When can I buy membership?

Once you have completed the necessary courses, you will receive an offer letter if you are invited to join the club. At this point you are free to buy membership and start shooting!

We are unfortunately limited by membership numbers, so cannot guarantee that attending the Beginner’s course / Safety shoot will result in an invite to join.

Please do not buy membership without an invite, as you will be unable to shoot and may not be refunded.

Question 8

How much is membership?

Regular members: £137.50 per annum

UoB Alumni and Post-Docs: £117.50 per annum

Please also note that the University also charges a small fee when purchasing memberships.

Question 9

How can I shoot at competitions?

We have a performance squad picked by our head coach and team captain. These are the members we as a club send to competitions. There are plenty of opportunities for external competitions (not organised officially by the club) that we also promote to all members. We also have inter club competitions so everyone can participate.

Do you do socials?

Yes we have two social secretaries that have planned a fun calendar of socials so there are always things to do outside of shooting.

Do I need my own equipment?

Absolutely not!

Archery can be an expensive sport, but we do everything we can to make it accessible to everyone regardless of their experience level.

We have all the equipment you will need to shoot during sessions, and those on the performance team will be able to borrow their own equipment to take home and to competitions.

The beginning of the year is a very busy time, so please expect to share bows and other equipment with others during busy sessions.

Where do you train?

In the Indoor Season, we train in Slater Hall in the main Sport and Fitness building on campus.

We also offer the ability to shoot outdoors for one session a week in term 2, and for the whole of term 3. This takes place on Metchley Pitches behind the Med school.
