"She's not writing about how she escaped the darkness. She's writing about all the beautiful, terrible things she discovered, learning to live inside of it."

Between Us and DecemberTiffany HutchingsEbookBetween Us and December is a unforgettable book of poetry about the cruel intimacy of a "situationship", the intoxicating ache of wanting someone who was never truly yours, and the quiet devastation of watching every beautiful thing turn cold. Beneath the snowfall and the soft glow of Christmas lights lives a girl who has spent her life mistaking longing for love, obsession for devotion, and fleeting affection for something eternal. Through drunken confessions, tangled bedsheets, winter kisses, and promises that rot before spring, she searches for tenderness in the arms of people who only know how to leave. These poems bleed with the bitterness of the shame of needing to be wanted, and the desperate hunger to feel beautiful in someone else's eyes. They wander through the ruins of friendships mistaken for romance, lovers who became strangers, and memories that refuse to die, even when the people inside them have long since disappeared. Somewhere between the empty wine bottles, dead daisies, and December nights, there is something more haunting than heartbreak: the realization that sometimes the loneliest place in the world is beside someone you love. Raw, sensual, bitter, and devastatingly vulnerable, Between Us and December is for anyone who has ever loved a ghost, mourned a relationship that never had a name, or begged the winter to bury what their heart could not forget. Some people leave when the season changes. Others become the winter you carry inside forever. "I told you I was afraid to kiss you I wanted to see what you would say You told me to wait until the time was right I was hoping you could help me figure out why you’re so damn terrifying You handed me your winter coat I’ve gotten used to living this way Our numbness grows every day Daisies dead in the vase My chipped sleeve tells me to fall in love with bad habits This is why I have a crush on you I’ll love you more when you say “we’re through”" -Winter Coat, Between Us and December
