How much time will it take to buy a home?

There are a few factors that can play into this. The location you are looking in, the criteria you need, and your price point. Typically, it takes thirty to forty five days to close a loan once you get your offer accepted. I always tell folks, the actual looking for a home can about the same time... For an example,  if you needed to be out of your lease by April 1- start looking in January.

What is the best first few steps to get started to buy a home in Phoenix metro area?

1. Contact a trusted lender to get help determine  the amount you qualify for. They also, help you overcome obstacles like credit issues so the sooner you talk with them the better. 
2. Set up an appointment with me. We will fine tune all the details of where to look, what do you need & what would be nice to have AND get answers to all your questions.
3. Be ready with some cash to get things started. 
Earnest money once your offer is accepted typically 1% of purchase price (this rolls into money for closing costs) within 3 days of contract acceptance you'll need money for home inspection and any other inspection you think you need. I always say $400/$1,000. Then once you are through the inspection period,  ordering the appraisal is your final cost  beside the closing costs at the end.
