In 2015, my dear friend passed at the hands of domestic violence. She was bright and kind. She could make anyone laugh. And even in her death, she helped me to discover some of the best parts about myself. I developed PTSD as I struggled to grapple with the effects of her loss, and in the early stages of recovery it was running that gave me the space to move through my grief.
The NYC Marathon is November 3rd, and I’m honored to be running on behalf of Safe Horizons: an organization that provides resources to children and families in violent households. Through counseling, Safe Horizons is helping 1 in 33 New Yorkers move from crisis to confidence and breaking the stigma around violence, and the effects it has on those we love. A decade later, I’d like to take back a piece of what was mine from the start. This is for my dear friend and for all those taking each step forward. If you feel inclined, I’d love for you to join me in support by donating below.
