When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Before I even had internet access, I was sitting at our family computer in elementary school, typing stories just to see what would happen if I kept going.

But the moment it became real was in middle school. I had the best 7th and 8th grade teacher. He didn’t just encourage me; he showed up for it. I handed him a 50-page, handwritten Twilight fanfiction starring me and Jasper, and instead of brushing it off, he read every single page. He wrote notes. Took it seriously. I owe so much to his kindness, to the fact that he treated my voice like it mattered when I was still figuring out who I was.

How did you learn to write?

I’m largely self-taught when it comes to the basics. I learned by writing constantly, reading for hours a day, paying attention to what worked, what didn’t, and pushing myself to get better through repetition. I built on that foundation by attending classes in creative writing, poetry, and journalism, which helped me understand structure, voice, and clarity in different ways.

Professionally, I’ve continued to grow through my current role helping clients, where I’ve learned how to adapt tone, meet deadlines, and write with intention for an audience.

Where do you get your ideas from?

Most of my ideas come from music, way too much caffeine, and a lot of daydreaming. I keep a list of ideas in my notes. Snippets, a bit of dialogue, a half-formed scene. Sometimes all it takes is the right song to unlock the rest. When that happens, I’ll put the song on repeat and let it carry me from the first sentence to the final scene.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on A Body Full of Static. It’s a coming-of-age story about addiction, escape, and the slow unraveling of a teenage girl who mistakes numbness for freedom. Set during the summer before her junior year, it follows her descent as friendships fracture, identity blurs, and the static in her body becomes the only thing that feels like relief.
