It all began on December 24th, 2010 with a serendipitous meeting on the airport bus to Jeonju. Johnny was returning from a holiday trip to continue his work as an English teacher. Hanna was returning home after completing her 2 year working holiday in Canada.
After many family meetings, traveling Korea, and successful home-brewing ; they got married and began their craft oddysey.
All beers sold at “Beer Temple” and "Beer garden" are made by “Nomadic Brewing Company,” a husband and wife, owned brewery operated by a Certified Brewmaster from Michigan whom was formally educated in Chicago, USA & Munich, Germany at the World Brewing Academy. Upon graduation, he worked at a priemere craft brewery in America. A true craft beer experience combining German technical brewing, American ingenuity, and Korean culture.
Nomadic beers reflect a passion for flavor exploration with respect to the local Korean palate. The Balanced Beer emphasis is why one finds such a diverse Korean crowd at Nomadic.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN...

We are Korea’s Beer Hippies. We don’t participate in beer competitions, expos, collaborations, or any paid marketing. Instead we focus on brewpub and beer garden culture. Artisan owned & operated ; we brew classic & experimental ales emphasizing premium and local ingredients. We also have a 5 year old barrel aged beer program including spontaneous fermentations.

Nomadic is the oldest craft brewery in the Jeollabukdo provinces with three locations in Jeonju.
First, is our custom built electric brewery on cozy Wedding Street. 
Second, Korea’s original stand alone Beer Garden located in a traditional Hanok Village. 
Third, the most recently acquired location is the Nomadic Beer Temple with indoor and outdoor seating. 
Each of the Nomadic buildings portray the historically diverse architecture of Jeonju.

We have brewed over 70 different beers including over 20 exotic beer ingredients over the past 6 years. We sell 99% of our beers directly to our patrons with very  limited distribution.

We love craft beer, but one of our iconic slogans “Balanced Beer, Balanced Life” challenges us to enjoy other pursuits. Cultivating world class beers from natural ingredients has created a deep connection between Nomadic & Mother Nature. We appreciate the natural world via camping, hiking, & various outdoor recreation. Environmental consciousness is present within every company decision.

Nomadic ferments with highest the percentage of organic rice of any brewery in Korea! Nomadic is known for its multicultural vibe, owned by an American who loves Korea. We pride ourselves on creating local jobs, hiring local artists, & utilizing skilled laborers.

We have successfully breathed life into three historic buildings while continuing to reinvest profits into preserving the historic architecture of this city.

NOMADIC BREWING COMPANY STORY 2

In 2018 Nomadic built the brewpub on Wedding Street due to its adordability as an undiscovered area conveniently located in the downtown. Broke in the beginning Johnny & Hanna initially lived in the storage room of the brewery during the first 8 months of operation.
We’ve discovered it’s not the easiest street to have 10 ton loading trucks navigate. But we believe strongly in brewpub culture where the community can witness the beer being made.
In 2023 we acquired the Beer Temple, an old brick warehouse as our forever taproom. It’s serendipitously located across the street from our brewery.
Currently all of our profits are being reinvested into this historic building as we believe in preserving the living history of Jeonju.
We are proud that Nomadic has successfully revitalized two historic buildings that once laid empty. Recently this street has become a popular drinking destination with many restaurants & bars. It’s a great place to walk around to feel the local urban vibe of Jeonju.

NOMADIC BEER TEMPLE STORY

Nomadic opened its Beer Garden in October of 2019 as the first, actual standalone Beer Garden in Korea. It’s creation was influenced by Johnny’s time visiting Munich Biergartens during Brewing School as well as his great love and appreciation for traditional Korean culture. The Hanok Village is one of the major reasons he chose to make Jeonju his 2nd home. Beer Garden has become a hotspot for locals & tourists alike providing an authentic “made in Jeonju” experience unlike anywhere else in the world.
Many people were surprised that he chose Nomadic’s 2nd location to be on a street that was riddled with “For Rent” signs. Truth be told the Hanok Village has suffered from gentrification throughout the years. But it’s his hope to inspire other independent, local businesses to enter Hanok Village & provide more positive experiences for locals & tourists alike. The village is an incredible place nestled in the mountains where one can take in the traditional vibes & views of Korea.

Inspired by German full-bodied, unfiltered lagers Johnny brewed in Munich Brewing School. Malty notes of bread & biscuit balanced with a noble hop profile.

Brewed with Organic Korean Rice
The marriage of a light rice lager & pale ale with soft hop juice. 
Malty notes of bread with silky rice mouthfeel. Soft juicy fruity hop flavors.

BEEURSELF (Braggot) 8.3% 
Brewed with Organic Korean Rice
Inspired hiking a local mountain and stumbling upon a beekeeper. Save the Bees! A Korean Raw Braggot fermented with Raw Local Wildflower Honey from Namgosan and then backsweetened post fermentation with a mixture of Organic Korean Rice Syrup & Local Wildflower Honey.

TOBY (Hefeweizen-Reisen) 6.5% 
Brewed with Organic Korean Rice
Named after Johnny’s German friend who welcomed me to stay in his home during brewing school. This beer has all the feels of a traditional Bavarian Hefeweizen with a Korean rice twist making it incredibly drinkable. Banana & Clove yeast aromatics, soft texture of wheat followed by a dry & silky rice finish.

STARBURST (Dunkelweiss) 5.1%
Reminiscent of a classic American childhood candy. Bavarian Yeast flavors of Banana & Clove, malty flavors of tart raspberry & sweet caramel woven into a creamy wheat backbone.

Not east or west… but a third coast IPA style reminiscent of taste of Great Lakes region & Johnny’s home. 
Malty notes of biscuit & caramel with juicy flavors of tropical, stone, & citrus hops.

Brewed & soured in 100% stainless steel with brewer's bacteria for 72 hours.

DARK HORSE (Imperial Oatmeal & Rice Stout) 10.5% 
Thick, robust dark beer notes with strong alcohol flavors. 
Malty notes of nutty toffee, bitter cacao, & roast coffee woven into a silky rice & creamy oat mouthfeel balanced with herbal hop character.

ABBEY ROAD (Belgian Tripel) 9.8% 
Inspired by Johnny’s Belgium road trip during Brewing School. Complex Spice aroma & flavor derived from Trappist yeast that is balanced out by a complex malt profile with hints of biscuit & gingerbread along with Nomadic silky dryness of fermented organic Korean rice sugars.
