This class will use acting techniques manipulated for improvisational theatre to help you dig in deeper to your characters, your scenes and each and every one of your improvised lines. This is a great class for students who feel comfortable improvising a scene but want to know how to bring their performance level up! You know the Meryl Streep of it all, the Viola David effect? This class will focus on a different technique each week, using drills at the top of the class and the class will end in open scenes playing with the learnt technique with side coaching. Scene based improv class Acting methods inspired drills Acting coached scenes Be the Viola Davis of your improv troupe Level: Experienced to Advanced (or beginners but with acting experience) TEACHER BIOS KIRSTEN RASMUSSEN Kirsten Rasmussen- is an actor/improviser/director living in Toronto, ON. Kirsten has been teaching improvisation for 14 years and taking acting classes for over 20 yrs. She has studied many different kinds of acting and comedy and loves to share her knowledge with her students. Kirsten is alumni of Second City Toronto Mainstage, Rapid Fire Theatre Company in Edmonton, she was a co-creator of the original Montreal Improv Theatre and she is teacher and director at Second City, Bad Dog Theatre, and Assembly Theatre in Toronto On. You can see her acting work in Slo Pitch on IFC, Bandladies on Highball and as a bank teller in Schitt's Creek. SCHOLARSHIPSTwo scholarship spots are reserved in each class at Improv College for members of equity-seeking communities on a first-come, first-served basis. But it can also be one of the most daunting. This workshop covers how to prepare for a class, design the workshop, run exercises, watch a scene, and how to give notes kindly but directly. We will also cover how to market your class or workshop and present it to potential students. This material will apply both to online and in-person teaching. Students will: teach each other exercises and get feedback on their teaching, develop a workshop outline and learn to revise it. The class will also discuss how to handle difficult situations, the difference between teaching a workshop and coaching a group and each session closes with a Q&A session. Guided teaching practice with feedback Develop a workshop Discover how to market your class Learn how to handle difficult situations Students are expected to be experienced improvisers (>60 hours of classes and performing) TEACHER BIO VINNY FRANCOIS Vinny Francois has over 25 years experience as a professional improviser in both English and French. He's a founding director of Improv College, Camp Zipzap (an improv camp for adults), was the Executive Producer of Mprov: The Montreal Improv Festival and co-founder of the Montreal Improv Theatre. Vinny has performed in Just For Laughs and improv festivals around the world. He currently writes for The Beaverton and co-hosts the science-comedy podcast Learn Real Good.
