Soul Brothers
Soul Brothers
Moses Ngwenya and David Masondo have been in this business for over forty years. Having recorded over 38 timeless albums since their inception in 1974, Soul Brothers remain the oldest and active African traditional music group in South Africa. Soul Brothers have survived this long in this tough industry because they have a passion for the genre. This is Mbaqanga music whose tracks vary from mid-tempo to full melodic sounds punctuated with a lot of rhythm and soul. The combination of Masondo’s quavering soprano voice and Ngwenya’s percussive keyboard playing gave the Soul Brothers a unique and instantly recognizable sound.

Stimela
Stimela
Hello and welcome to the official YouTube channel of Stimela! Stimela is a legendary South African afro-fusion band founded in 1982 by the late, self-taught guitarist Raymond (Ray) Phiri. Inspired by his troubadour father’s puppet shows, Ray saved enough to journey to Johannesburg and kick-start his musical career. Initially known as "The Cannibals," the band featured Jabu Sibume on bass, Isaac Mtshali on drums, and Lloyd Lelosa on keyboards, providing instrumental support for artists like The Mahotella Queens. In 1975, they joined forces with vocalist Jacob "Mparanyana" Radabe, and in 1982, with the addition of Thabelo Kgomo and Charlie Ndlovu, they rebranded as Stimela—ushering in a decade of gold and platinum-selling albums. Blending RnB, gospel, rock, folk, and dance with a distinctly African soul, Stimela continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Enjoy exclusive content and official releases here. Mango Groove
Mango Groove
As a true phenomenon in the South African music scene, Mango Groove needs very little introduction. Having cut its teeth in the mid-80’s SA alternative music scene (as a non racial South African act), the group exploded into national consciousness. Mango groove with its uniquely eclectic, Big Band/Marabi-Pop sound has truly captured the hearts of South Africans and the hearts of people around the world. The band has classic hits such as Special Star, Dance Sum More, Hometalk, Moments Away and Another Country not forgetting the group’s best known radio hits from the last two decades (Mango Groove has had over 20 of them!) Hellfire, Penny Whistle, Nice To See You, Move Up, the list goes on and on. Taking SA music to the world among other things, Mango Groove was the only South African act invited to perform at the 1997 handover of Hong Kong to China, making them the only SA act featured on The Freddy Mercury Tribute concert that was broadcast-ed to over a billion people.

Bhekumuzi Luthuli
Bhekumuzi Luthuli
Bhekumuzi born 1961 in KwaZulu Natal joined a Mbaqanga group in 1980 joined the called Oshimi, and recorded two albums with the group before going solo. He than met well-known producer Tom Mkhize, who converted his sound to Maskandi not knowing that this would be the catalyst for his solo career and elevate him instantly to super star status. Bhekumuzi chose his own style, dropping the traditional skins for a slicker, more sophisticated look, perming his hair and dressing in the finest clothes, instead of opting for the same look as his peers. Never compromising his career path, his albums reached gold, platinum and multi-platinum status with little effort other than his love of great music. His poetry and whimsical lyrical approach has always been his calling and continue to rake in the fans but the most alluring aspect of his music is the ability to make people dance and as long as people want to have a good time in South Africa, Bhekumuzi will always be on top of the playlist.

Dorothy Masuka (Masuku)
Dorothy Masuka (Masuku)
Dorothy Masuka was an African Jazz musician of note, but also much more. During a long winding career of over fifty years, she entertained and inspired many with her innovative and very unique sound. She graced the covers of Drum and Zonk! magazines and became no longer ‘just a musician’ but also a cover girl, a leader of fashion and an icon of glamour and sophistication. Her story began in 1951 when the then sixteen year-old Zimbabwean girl recorded her own composition ‘Hamba Nontsokolo’ with Troubadour Records in Johannesburg, the song proved to be an instant hit and has since become a South African classic. She entered the world of the country’s top vocalists like Dolly Rathebe & Miriam Makeba. It was only a matter of time before she joined the great testing ground of African musical talent, Alf Herbert’s ‘African Jazz and Variety’ where she soon received top-billing. MASUKA WAS A SINGER, A COMPOSER, A HEROINE, AND AN ARCHITECT OF THE DISCOURSE OF POPULAR AFRICAN LIBERATION MUSIC.
