Can I Volunteer at Old Rectory Farm?

What are the opening hours across the park?

Sheldon Country Park is opened daily from 7:30AM and park gates close in line with dusk. Old Rectory Farm is open daily from 10:30AM and closes at 5:30PM (summer) and 4:00PM (winter). The Airport Viewing Area is open in line with the park operating hours. All facilities are open every day of the year except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Are dogs allowed in Sheldon Country Park?

Dogs are welcome in most areas of the park, but they are not allowed inside Old Rectory Farm where the animals are kept.

Can I feed the farm animals?

Accepted Answer

Visitors are asked not to feed the animals - including grass. This rule is in place for many reasons and one of those is because of the high volume of dog walkers, which poses the risk of neosporosis to cattle. The animals are fed, watered and health checked daily by the on-site staff team who carry over 20 years of experience managing livestock and are ocassionaly joined by animal care students, vetinary medical students, vets and experienced volunteers.

Who manages Sheldon Country Park and how can I report issues?

Sheldon Country Park is owned and managed by Birmingham City Council’s Parks and Greenspace Service, with Rangers based on site. The Friends of Sheldon Country Park are an independent volunteer charity that supports the park through community events, conservation work and volunteering, but we do not manage the park itself. Issues and damage can be reported to Birmingham City Council online or directly to the Ranger Service via email/phone. You can also email us and we will pass any information on.
