My name is Dean Hunter and I am at 24 year-old aspiring filmmaker. I am currently completing my HND film and TV course with New College Lanarkshire. I have a particular interest in writing/directing short films and I am also interested in directing music videos. I have made multiple music videos within the last year and I intend to make more. I also have plans to make a short film this year. I want to make as many projects as I possibly can as I know that is the only way to improve as a filmmaker.

Showreel:
With my showreel, I found it very challenging to find a royalty free song that I felt went well with my footage. Also, having to cut scenes that I liked short to help with the rhythm of the edit is something I found difficult.

Cosmic Empire Documentary:

With the documentary, a challenge that I ran into was that I didn't tell the interviewees to repeat the question in each answer so it was a challenge to cut the answers in a way that still made sense. Also, at the time I didn't know how to colour grade, so it is very frustrating looking back at the footage as it is very pale.

Loves Embrace music video:

This is the hardest project I made this year as the story completely changed from the one I wrote initially. I made this decision after putting together a rough cut and it was clear the idea didn't work. I also made the mistake of only shooting exactly what I thought was needed. So when I discovered issues with the footage in the edit, there was no way to cut around it.

Project reflections

Last Chance Saloon:

There were a few challenges as an editor on this project. The biggest one being an issue with the audio being out of sync with the footage. This meant I had to individually speed up every clip to get the dialogue to match the footage. Colour grading was also a challenge as it was my first time dealing with footage shot in a log style format.

Scene recreation - Suits:

As an editor on this project, I unfortunately ran into the same issues with the footage as Last Chance Saloon. I had to once again speed up every single clip to get the dialogue to match the footage. It was also a challenge having to try and match the scene from suits exactly with our footage. Focusing on the camera angles used and creating the same rhythm of the scene with the timing of cuts.
