Question 2

Why Cloudillo?

Accepted Answer

Today's social media has become dangerous. Algorithms control what you see, advertising is annoying, there are valid and serious privacy concerns, and the whole experience has show been to be unhealthy for people scientifically.

Cloudillo does away with the above. It can run on a small server (self-host) that you can set up at home, such as a MiniPC, Raspberry Pi or old tower.

Alternatively, you can pay an hosting company a small amount of money to host it for you.

On Cloudillo, you can share, chat, collaborate on documents, publish a blog, share files and more without the worries.

Your users who connect your Cloudillo do not need their own server.

Question 3

What is self-hosting?

Accepted Answer

Self-hosting is where a someone runs a server themselves, usually from home, where the server equipment is physically located at home. This is not usually expensive (a second hand computer tower is often enough) and requires a degree of expertise, although it is not impossible that an IT Professional could be hired for a few hours to set it all up!

The main advantage of doing this is that the user maintains full control over the server and what happens on it. No algorithms, agreements or noise. Local networks are run by someone who is local and reachable. This makes the internet safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
