Wow we came in just before 5PM and as it turns out they are on a break from 3-5PM, which was not disclosed on their IG account. What a waste we drove specifically to this restaurant. Would be nice to give an update on their social media so people would see.

This is the 2nd grand opening day, I didnt know what happened on the 1st day but the 2nd day was pure chaos. We sat & ordered at exactly 5PM. The way they served the utensils is also questionable, they gave us spoon & chopsticks without any plate or coaster to rest it. So we had to use tissue to prevent the spoon from touching the table directly 🫠

We were told multiple times they ran out of ingredients and need to prep it from the beginning so cooking could start at 5.30PM. Sure enough, my mapo tofu came at around 6PM, but the portion was hella small. It's not even half of the claypot 😵

While we were waiting, the owner offered us free ice cream for the delay, to be served after we finished eating, so we thank him and plan to request it for later. Now the pork came a bit later around 6.20PM. The portion is inconsistent tho, we ordered 3 buta kakuni and 1 of them were fully packed but only fat (barely any meat), and the other two was only half the claypot & has proper amount of meat. Now the thing is, we ordered a set meal which comes with miso soup, potato salad, rice and chili oil. The potato salad? Its just like a slab of mash potato, not a salad at all. The portion of it couldnt even be considered as a side dish, its the same amount as butter, when you add cubed butter to your bread.

Overall the food is tasty tho I gotta say. They really need to up their game and their portion.

Additionally, their TOILET. It ran out of water for a very long time. They said they are pumping the water up, and it's been 45 minutes but the water is still dead. One of the staff even said that the toilet is out of order. So we had to go to Hong Kong Cai and ordered polo buns to get toilet access 😭😭

15 mins later, the water is running again 🫠

Remember about the ice cream the owner promised? When we asked the staff (the owner was in the kitchen), she said "have you provided google review?" And I said, the owner said its free for us to eat after dinner. So she went to check this with her owner. And 10 minutes later, the staff never came back with our ice cream. So we just got up and pay to the cashier.

Truly. A nightmare situation. Such a shame since the food is actually good. If this was a soft opening, I'd understand, but this is already a grand opening. And to be so underprepared, is mind blowing.

Chukaya. Honestly, I did not expect this to be so good. Well turns out, it's viral on the internet. Anyway, walked in, got seated, and you order through QR with a wonky web app. I visited twice. First time, I had a large braised pork dinner the night before and end up with the Buta Nanban set. Second visit, I went for their signature Buta Kakuni and Nikujaga. Both times I chose the set as it includes rice, miso soup, mashed potato, salad, chilli oil, and dessert. The Buta Kakuni is surprisingly good and pleasantly well portioned. The pork is not too mushy nor stiff, and the flavour is well absorbed into the meat. The Nikujaga features a sweet yet savoury taste, the beef is very soft. Then, the Buta Nanban itself has a sweet tangy taste from the tartar sauce, which is kinda unique. Miso soup is balanced, the dashi flavour is not too heavy. For dessert I went with mochi and ice cream. Dining area is full AC. Tables are quite close to each other though, so if you get a loud neighbouring table, expect to hear them yap about their entire life story.

Two times visited here and overall i was satisfied with the food. Buta kakuni, the pork belly was soft and tender, the seasoning was good, too. Buta nanban, the pork was pretty crispy and the meat was easy to eat. Mapo tofu had a little hint taste of mala, not that hard tho, still enjoyed it. Supamu teriyaki was literally spam chopped into small diced, seasoned with teriyaki sauce, and seaweed at the top.
The price was still reasonable. Although you must order the set menu to get the chili oil which i rarely found it in other restaurants.
The place was pretty comfortable, the service was quite fast.
