How does CARA score during their meets?

Accepted Answer

Base score Starts at 9.0 for all events containing 6 skills.
For each CARA Standard Skill “A”, 0.1 is added to the start score.
For each CARA Standard Skill “B”, 0.2 is added to the base score.
For each CARA Standard Skill “C”, 0.3 is added to the base score.
For each Category performed, 0.3 each (up to 1.2).
All bonus skills come from the CARA Standard Skills.
Repetitive bonus skills does not count twice for bonus points.
CARA standard skills are allowed to be modified. This means a C value skill can be modified to a B value skill. As long as the judge can recognize the skill being performed the gymnast will receive the lower skill value.

How do bonuses work?

Level 1’s do not get skill bonuses or category bonuses added to their score. But are allowed to perform A, B, C skills.

All levels can perform A, B, C skills, but coaches must always maintain safety in regards to skill selection.

How are groups split up at meets?

Accepted Answer

Minimum of 8, max of 10 gymnasts per age group. It is the responsibility of the host gym to set age groups appropriately.

Are spotters allowed at meets?

Spotters are required on Rings, Horizontal Bar, Vault.

Spotters are allowed on all events, however assistance is deducted 0.5 per skill

Incidental contact is not deducted

Question 6

How does my gymnast move up?

Accepted Answer

Level 1’s: after three years of competition, must move up to level 2.
Level 2’s: after four years of competition, must move up to level 3.

Score Mandates:
Level 1 AA score of 45.8 or higher moves up to Level 2. (7.8 average on five events + 6.8 on pommel)
Level 2 AA score of 49.8 or higher moves up to Level 3. (8.5 average on five events + 7.3 on pommel)
