Question 1

What is the Build Belonging campaign?

Accepted Answer

Build Belonging is a fundraising campaign to restore and revitalize Sligo Church’s flood-damaged lower level and to transform the upper-level classrooms for youth and young adults. Together, we can create brighter, more welcoming spaces where children, youth, and young adults, along with their families, can grow in faith, build friendships, and find belonging.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
The campaign invites everyone who has ever called Sligo home to help shape its future.

Question 2

Why is this renovation necessary?

Accepted Answer

Recent flooding left most lower-level rooms unusable, destroyed ministry equipment and resources, and displaced children’s, youth, and young adult ministries throughout the building. Renovation will restore and reimagine these vital next-generation ministry spaces and address the lower level’s dark, dated atmosphere.

Question 3

Why renovate instead of simply repairing the flood damage?

Accepted Answer

Repairs would restore what was there. Renovation allows us to improve these spaces thoughtfully, for the ministries they serve today—and for generations to come. Our vision is to move beyond restoring damaged rooms to creating a brighter, more welcoming environment that supports connection, faith, and belonging.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Since the building of the church, we have added the youth addition, renovated the Sanctuary, and renovated the Atrium and Greenwood Avenue spaces - the children’s area is original to the building. We believe it is now time to renovate for our children, update for our youth, and give our young adults a home.

Question 4

What areas of the church will be renovated?

Accepted Answer

The project focuses on Sligo Church’s lower and upper levels.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
On the lower level, the Memorial Chapel will be renovated into an open, bright, multi-use space. The back of the chapel, currently a storage area, will become a welcoming cafe-style lobby where parents can connect.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
The lower-level classrooms will be updated and designed to meet each age group’s learning styles.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
The project also extends to the Youth Room, transforming it into a secondary worship space for ministries like Glow, Youth XP, Power-Up, and SWAG. The Men’s Restroom and stairwells will also be updated.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
On the upper level, the Primary II and Junior Rooms will be transformed into dedicated spaces for Earliteens, Youth, and Young Adults.

Question 5

Who will benefit from these renewed spaces?

Accepted Answer

Children, youth, and young adults are at the heart of this project, along with the families, volunteers, and ministry leaders who support them. The centralization of the children's classrooms will make our ministry spaces safer for our children and easier for parents and visitors to navigate. Renewing these spaces will also strengthen the wider Sligo community by supporting the relationships and ministries that connect across generations.

Question 6

When will the project be completed?

Accepted Answer

The project is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2027.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
We will share updates as the project moves forward

Question 7

What will donations be used for?

Accepted Answer

Gifts to Build Belonging will help restore and renew the lower-level and upper-level ministry spaces, making them brighter, more welcoming, and better suited to the young people who use them.
 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
In the lower level, 80% of the ministry's equipment, furniture, and supplies were lost to flooding. Donations will not only rebuild the space but also fund new equipment, furniture, and supplies.

Question 8

Doesn’t insurance cover the flood damage?

Accepted Answer

Insurance is paying out $178k for flood damage and $120k in recoverable depreciation. The campaign’s purpose extends beyond repairing the flood damage: it seeks to improve and transform the spaces for future ministry. We are looking to make our spaces more accessible and secure with updated learning technologies that integrate learning styles into classrooms and create more open, bright, and welcoming areas for connection.

Question 9

Are donations tax-deductible?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all donations are tax-deductible.
