Bright indirect light really means a strong light source that's not directly hitting the plant. Basically, as long as the sun rays are not directly touching the leaves, you are good to go!

What is "Bright Indirect Light"?

Pests can be annoying but there are some easy solutions for the 2 most common houseplant pests.

Fungus Gnats:
These are flying bugs that lay their eggs in soil that is consistently moist. You can buy yellow sticky traps (linked below) to catch the adults, and use either soapy water OR a 1:4 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water to kill the larvae in the soil. You will also want to allow the soil to dry completely between watering.
(Note - the full life cycle of fungus gnats is 5 weeks. If you stop noticing them after this time, you are in the clear!)
Spider Mites:
Isolate the infected plant to prevent the spread of spider mites to other plants and give it a shower when it needs to be watered to wash away the mites. You can use a diluted soapy water spray to kill these mites. If the infestation is too severe, try neem oil! (linked below) Just spray and wipe!

1: Too much sun
If you have your plant in an area where it is getting direct sunlight, move it somewhere a little further away from the window! (You can cut those burnt leaves off too if you would like to.)
2: Tap water
Normal tap water contains chemicals that makes it safe for humans that can be toxic for more picky plants. A free fix for this is collecting rain water when you can, plus all plants love rain water! You can also take a quick trip to the store for some distilled water, or check the link below for a super cool hack using API Stress Coat +

Root Rot 101 (skip to 7:57 to get right into how to fix the plant)

1: Old Age
If you notice the yellow leaves are closest to the base of the plant (or the soil), it could just be the plant shedding the old leaves. However, if even the newer leaves are yellow, it could be rot.
2: Root rot 
Root rot can occur if you over-watered your plant. Don't worry! It can still be fixed.. but you will need to get your hands dirty.

You will need:
- Scissors
- Rubbing alcohol to sanitize
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- New soil & possibly a pot depending on the damage

To determine if your plant has root rot, you will need to take it out of the pot and clean off all the soil. If you have access to a hose outside, I recommend going to rinse off the roots the best you can before we continue. If your plant does have root rot, you will see dark brown mushy roots (healthy roots should be tan and firm). If there are no rotted roots you are good to pot your plant back up!

Yellowing leaves? (click for info)

- Give your plants a shower every once in a while! Literally! Showering your plants will dust off the leaves and knock off any pests like spider mites if they wiggled their way on your plant.
- ALWAYS use a pot with drainage holes!!! If the pot you like does't have any - add some! You can drill, poke, cut, or melt (carefully) holes into pots that dont have drainage!
- FERTILIZE! Plants need to eat! Water is great.. but how would you feel on a water only diet your whole life? (Plus, fertilizer helps those leaves get massive!)
- Check those roots! If you have had your plant for a while, take a quick look at the drainage holes and see if the roots are peaking out. If they are, time for a repot! When you repot you only want to go up in pot size by 1-2 inches at a time. 
- A moisture meter is a great, cheap way to tell if your plant needs water!
