What training can I attend?

ECG is available for all healthcare practitioners
Venepuncture is available for all HCSW
Venepuncture & Cannulation is for trained staff.
IV Therapy is for trained staff only.

Question 2

How do I achieve the competency for these courses?

Accepted Answer

First you need to attend the course.  You will then be given a workbook to complete on the ward with your ward Sister or assessor. You will have a deadline of 6 weeks to complete this workbook, and once this has been completed please ask your line manager to email education@wvt.nhs.uk. We will then update your ESR record and issue you with the competency.  Please note this can take up to 5 days to process.

Question 3

I haven't managed to get signed off within the 6 weeks, what do I do?

If you are unable to complete the workbook and get signed off within this period, please email education@wvt.nhs.uk and we will then be able to review this for you. Depending on the circumstances, we will either be able to grant you an extension of the deadline or the Clinical Skills Team can advise further and may be able to arrange further support.

Question 4

Where do I attend this training?

All training takes places in the Education & Development Centre (building 12 on the WVT site map ). Our training rooms are on the first floor.  Please see the screen at the top of the stairs for specific room information on the day of training.

Question 5

I have booked for the IV Therapy Study Day, do I have to do any pre-learning before hand?

Yes, there are 4 e-learning modules that you MUST complete 48 hours prior to attending the course.
These courses are available via your ESR Learner Homepage.
Failure to complete these will result in your place on the course being cancelled. The 4 modules are:
