Do I need to buy all my own gear?

No, we have Kitshare (linked on this page) to provide all stoats with gear from climbing shoes to waterproofs.

Can I stay a member after graduation?

After graduation, many stoats join the MAM (Midlands association of mountaineering). Due to our close ties you will meet members on MAM joint trips; Lowhouse and Ogwen. It is a great way to keep in touch with the society when you graduate.

I don't know how to climb!

Don't panic, we can teach you. Come along to Redpoint Wednesday sessions and we will teach you to tie in, belay and more. As you progress you can also learn to lead climb, sport lead and trad lead!

Absolutely, join our Whattsapp community. We run teaching sessions in the first and second semester.

How do I get on a trip?

Information on trips will come out in the weeks before along with the sign up times, and the UBMC calendar will show when each trip is. Sign up with speed as spaces usually go very fast although we try to prioritise newcomers. A trip list of attendees will then be released.

Where in Birmingham can I climb indoors

The club frequents Depot on a monday and Redpoint on a Wednesday. Other great options include Creation, Flash, Boulder Central, the University Sport and Fitness small climbing wall and Birmingham Bouldering Centre.

How hard is it to get on trips?

Accepted Answer

Priority 1: Committee committee always get first priority as they are essential for the running of the trips
Priority 2: Drivers - we need enough drivers to transport everyone so drivers will always get priority
Priority 3: Leaders/Belayers occasionally we need to prioritise some people with more experience to ensure everyone will get to climb
Priority 4: No previous trips - we prioritise people who have not got on any trips yet this year over people who have already got on trips to ensure everyone gets a go and it's not the same people on every trip
