What is the cost?

o	The join fee is $125 a year. This fee goes to council and national. There are scholarships available for youth that may need assistance.  In addition there are unit cost for outings and other cost. A lot of those cost and the annual join fee can be covered by the fundraising the unit does.  If a youth participates in most or all of the fundraising scouting can be close to a no cost program.

Is it safe for my child?

All direct contact adults are required to take Safeguarding Youth Training. In addition, special training is required depending on the activity the unit is doing.  All training that is given to adults has safety as part of it. Some of those trainings are hazard weather, first aid & CPR, safe swim, safe float (boating), climbing, and many more. All direct contact leaders take leader specific training to make sure they are doing the program as designed.

Can my child do sports and scouts at the same time?

Yes, your child can do sports and other activities with scouting. Lots of the youth in the program do many activities along with scouting. They may not get all the awards and advance as fast as other youth but a lot of the activities can be done at home or they can make it up when are not doing the other activity.  Scouting is a year long program so you can fit it in your schedule when you can.

What will my child do in Cub Scouts?

Most of all have fun with other scouts. They will go on hikes, an annual campout with the Pack (maybe more than once a year), go to summer camp, swimming, play games indoors and outdoors, visit fire department, police department, museums, State Capital, go to sporting events at an reduced cost, pinewood derby car race, community service projects, crafts, woodworking, and a lot more.  They sky the limits on what the scouts want to do and what the adults can do with the scouts.

Meet 3 times a month on Monday nights at 6pm to 7pm at St. Mary School in Stayton.

What will my child do in Scouts BSA?

Go see, do, learn, have an adventure and fun. They will go camping 9 to 10 times a year. Go to a weeklong summer camp. Go hiking, backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing & repelling, horseback riding, caving, fishing, and so much more. Visit things they may not get to go see with their family like the Coast Guard Air Station in Astoria or visit the Redwoods in Norther California.  It is up to the youth to decide what they want to plan and do.  The youth plan and run the meetings and outings and are guided by adults and the adults make sure they are safe at all times

Who can join Scouts BSA Troop?

We have a Boys & Girls Troop in the Area. Youth must be 11 years old to 17 years old.

What nights does the Scouts BSA Troops meet & where?

We meet Tuesday nights at 6:30pm to 8pm at St. Mary School in Stayton. The Boys and Girls meet separately at the school.

Do the boys and girls camp together?

At times the boys Troop and girls Troop do go on the same campout.  They camp in separate locations with their own adult supervision and leadership.  They do activities together but camp separately.

Life Skills your child will learn from Scouting?

They will learn confidence in themselves, communication (public speaking), how to lead and how to follow, meeting and event planning, interview skills, teaching others, service to others, importance of citizenship, being a member of a team, cooking, first aid, outdoors and camping skills, and so much more.
