How do I become a Muslim?

Say with your mouth what you're heart and mind believe:

Testify that there is no God or diety worthy of worship and obedience except Allah Alone without partner and without children. AND Testify that Muhammad ibn Abdullah was His slave, servant, and final Messenger.

You can say in Arabic also: Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill Allah wa Ash-hadu anna Muhammadar Rasoolullah.

Connect with the Muslims so that they may witness this first action of your Islam and help you along. But, know that the best witness is Allah, The All-Hearing and All-Seeing One.

Question 3

What do I do after becoming a Muslim?

1. Do the best you can (You generally know what's right or wrong)
2. Get Knowledge (about Allah and about the Prayer)
3. Connect with a local Muslim community (Masjid).

Question 4

Should I be a Shia, Sunni, Salafi, Sufi or what?

"And who speaks better than the one who [calls on and invites others to] Allah, does good and righteous actions and says, "I am a Muslim" [41:33]

"...it is He Who has named you Muslims, both before and in this (Qur'an)..." [22:78]

A Muslim should follow the traditional ways (or Sunnah) of the Prophet (pbuh). The household of the Prophet AND the Companions of the Prophet (Allah be pleased with them all) knew the Prophet best.  And, the best Muslim does righteous outward "religious" actions and he or she is always "spiritual" constantly purifying his or her heart, soul, and mind.

Be not extreme in any direction.  Al-Islam is a middle course.  Refer all matters back to the traditions of the Prophet (pbuh) and moreover, refer back to the Qur'an in all matters of disagreement.

Be a Muslim.

Question 5

I'm afraid I will be a bad or lazy Muslim, what do I do now?

Accepted Answer

If you believe, become a Muslim, freely. Faith rises and fails. Fear is from the Shaytan (Satan).

If you are sincere, Allah will make a way. If you reject, knowingly, then Shaytan only threatens you with false fears and false hopes.  Allah promises you all that is good and true.

And, the person with even one tiny dust particle worth of faith will see benefit and eventually be given Paradise.

How can I make friends?

Accepted Answer

DO NOT focus on making "friends".  Focus on being a good Muslim.  Starts by being real and true to Allah. Then be good and true to your Muslim brother by talking about Allah good advice and do not invite him (or her) to do your sins. If doing good is hard, at least don't do bad. Avoid as much as you can and conceal as much as you can. Allah will guide you to good companionship. Just "socializing" won't save you from the FIRE!

Where can I go for fun?

1. Go to a class at the Masjid or a school or library. Anything else is extra, like going out to eat. The (new) Muslim should want knowledge about Allah, His Messenger, and His religion (al-Islam). Don't be fooled. Don't get caught up.
