How do I get a meet & greet?

We love how excited you are to meet your potential new family member. However, you must submit an application and get approved by our adoption coordinator before doing a meet & greet. Our adoption coordinator will speak with you about the process and answer any questions you might have.

Question 3

I was the third applicant for an animal. Do I even have a chance of getting them?

Accepted Answer

It is totally understandable that you feel like you are on pins and needles while waiting to hear back about your application, if you are the chosen family. No worries! We adopt based on a "first best match". So, even though you are the third applicant, you will get your chance to meet them. We make sure everyone that has applied gets the same opportunity at adopting them. All the families will do their own meet & greet, all at different times and/or days. After all families have done their meet & greet, we go over all applicants and choose the first best match for that animal. You have the same chance that the first applicant gets!

Question 4

We are going on a trip soon after applying. Can we put a hold/deposit on the animal so they don't get adopted?

Every applicant has the same opportunity to adopt the animal they apply for. We understand that life happens and you might not be able to bring them home right away. We will work with you on a plan specific for your family. So in terms of putting a hold/deposit on an animal, the answer is no. There is no need because of our unique adoption process.

Do you do same day adoptions?

The short answer is no. We are only a few volunteers running an entire shelter with over 175 animals in total. We try to do everything in a timely manner, but sometimes it might be a few extra days due to unforeseen chaos.

Email is the best way to communicate with us. The few of us that run the shelter work at uncommon times most days. Do you really want us to call you back at 11:26 pm?

I haven't heard anything in 5 days since I put in my application. Who can I ask about my application?

We try our hardest to do all tasks in a timely manner. Sometimes the animals have different plans for us. Just shoot us an email referencing your application and we will try to update you asap.

Question 9

Why do I only pay $50 on the day I take them home? Can't I just pay the entire adoption fee now?

Accepted Answer

The $50 we require you to pay prior to taking an animal is a non-refundable deposit. We don't want any of the families we work with to feel that they have to keep an animal, even if it is not going well. We keep in touch the whole adoption process to make sure everyone has the best chance for success. If the animal you take home is not working well in your family, we absolutely will take them back. You have the option to find a different match if you'd like or take a break and visit other shelters to meet other animals that need a home also or you can choose to step away without any strings. (We love being able to be match makers for our animals and potential families)

Question 10

I ended up adopting from a different shelter (or the cat distribution system found me), what should I do?

Well first off, CONGRATULATIONS on your new addition to the family! Even though it wasn't one of our animals, we see any adoption as a great thing. Just send us an email so we know to take you off the list of applicants for the animal you applied for. We will still let you know if your application is approved. You might decide in 7 months that your new family member needs a buddy. We would love to help you find a compatible new friend for your family. Just send us an email if you are interested in starting your new search.
