What is Cub Scouts?

The Cub Scout program is meant to develop character, citizenship, and personal fitness in elementary aged children. This is done by reinforcing positive values, nurturing respect for the community our nation and encouraging service to others, and promoting mental physical and emotional well-being.

Who is it for?

Our pack serves both boys and girls presently in (or entering) Kinder through Fifth Grade, or 5 - 10 year olds for those not enrolled in traditional school settings. While we are based in San Marcos, you do not need to be a San Marcos resident.

Question 3

Is it time consuming?

Your scout’s commitment is up to your family, and whatever works for y’all. The program is run by parents of (generally) multi-kid households and we get it - there’s only so much time in the week. During the school year we meet weekly, once a week for about 1-1.5 hours. Occasionally we will have opportunities outside of the regular meeting times for camping, outings (hikes, bike rides, fishing, etc.), service projects, fundraisers, special events, and award/recognition ceremonies. For the most part, these are “extra” and meant to enrich your experience. We never want to make Scouting burdensome.

Is it expensive?

There are registration fees and dues associated with Cub Scouting. We make every effort to explain these in detail and make it affordable. We truly believe that there is great value in what our children can learn and experience with Scouting, and you’ll find it’s more affordable to participate in than many other youth programs and we run all year not just a season. Our pack dues cover ALL activities, we don’t expect families to come out of pocket all the time.

Our pack finances are always open for inspection, and we aim to be good stewards of the dues we collect. We provide various fundraising opportunities to offset the cost of scouting, and we have a limited amount of financial assistance. We reduce pack dues for multi-sibling households, and dues may be spread out throughout the year.

How do we join?

Accepted Answer

We want you to reach out to us and visit some meetings first, and make sure we are a good fit for your child and family. While we understand many families are “dead set” on joining, we don’t expect you to rush into anything. Eventually, if you decide to join we’ll have you fill out an online application and go from there.
