What are the dues, and what do they cover?

National membership fee: $85/year for youth.
Scout Life magazine is an optional $15/year add-on.

Pack dues: We do not charge dues at this time. We do accept donations, however. It costs about $20 per child per year to run the program.

What else should we budget for?

Handbook: around $24, and each grade level uses its own (Optional)
Uniform: new shirt runs around $32, Belt is around $15(needed for belt loop awards)

Question 3

How often do dens meet, and for how long?

We meet two Mondays a month from 6-7 generally. Meetings are held sometimes at the school but frequently out in nature or at leaders' houses.

How often does the whole pack meet?

We will strive to have one outdoor activity per month. This will frequently be something like a campout, a hike or a creekwalk.

What ages or grades can join?

Kindergarten through fifth grade, roughly ages 5 to 10. The ranks by grade: Lion (K), Tiger (1st), Wolf (2nd), Bear (3rd), Webelos (4th), Arrow of Light (5th).

Can girls join? Are dens single-gender or mixed?

Yes. Girls have been able to join Cub Scouts since 2018.

Dens are mixed-gender.

Do parents stay at meetings or drop off?

For Lions (Kindergarten) and Tigers (1st grade), this is national policy, not a pack preference: each scout must have an adult partner present at every den meeting, pack meeting, and outing. That adult can be a parent, guardian, or another trusted adult, and one adult can partner more than one child.

Our Pack policy is that, as a rule, for wolf and up that an adult be present, just like for the younger cub scouts.

Are parents required to volunteer, and how many hours?

No. But we hope that you will take this opportunity to grow with your child. Cub scouting is a richer experience when parents are present with them.

What exactly does my child need on day one versus later?

What do we want to expect as policy? THis?

Day one: nothing. Come in regular clothes.
Within a few weeks: the uniform shirt, neckerchief and slide, and the handbook for their rank.
Later or optional: pants, belt, hat, socks.

Question 10

How do we register, and what info do you need?

Accepted Answer

Registration is online through Scouting America's system or via a paper form. This is actually also a link in the menu before. (Join up!) Youth applications ask for the child's name, date of birth, grade, school, and parent/guardian contact information, plus payment of the national fees.

Adults registering as leaders complete a separate adult application, provide information for the background check, and must have Youth Protection Training done first.

We are a Family (Boys and Girls) Cub Scout Pack located in Nashville, TN. We meet at Sylvan Park Elementary School at 6:00 on Monday nights twice a month.
