A BiteNadia MustefaPaperbackA Bite: Gursha, is a compilation of poems and short stories from first generation Ethiopian American Nadia Mustefa. Nadia uses a blend of lived experiences and embellished truths to showcase her unique but albeit universal experiences as a child of the diaspora. Nadia uses lines about food, boundaries, cartographies, colors, textures and memories to create sensory nostalgia. Nadia chose to include Amharic words to emphasize the forceful distance and therefore tension between her identities. This collection serves as a love letter to her family, her traditions, and her 30 years of life. It might make you laugh, it might force you to reflect, and it might even make you shed a tear. Overall it is meant to reassure you that you are not alone, nor have you ever been in your pursuit of love, community and your freedoms. Although our journeys to these things may look different we all ride similar emotional waves on our way.
