In 1949 the City of New Orleans notified the Church that it must move because the area in which it was located had been selected as the site of the City’s future civic center. The city demanded the immediate vacating of the premises in August 1951. The “New Mount Zion Baptist Church” was ready for occupancy in August 1952 and was erected at a cost of $165,000. Currently, the congregation of Mount Zion Baptist Church has created several initiatives towards the restoration of this now 74 year old building. Your attendance and donations this afternoon will go a long way towards preserving our precious church home so that we may continue the work that God has set before us.
