Tikkun Olam - Repairing the World
As Jewish people living in Australia, we are part of a global community grounded in values of justice, human dignity, and responsibility. What is happening in Gaza is not a distant issue—it is being perpetrated in our name, it is a human and moral crisis that demands our attention.

Tikkun Olam is the Jewish concept of repairing the world. Standing in solidarity with Palestinians who are experiencing occupation and genocide is a way to live out this Jewish value.

Jewish Values Call Us to Act
Judaism teaches us to "pursue justice" (Deuteronomy 16:20) and to care for the stranger, for we were once strangers in a foreign land. These values compel us to speak out against injustice, wherever it occurs. When we witness the suffering of civilians in Gaza, particularly children and families, we are morally obligated to respond with compassion and action.

Pursuit of justice

Judaism is thousands of years old, whereas Zionism is a nationalist movement originating in the late nineteenth century. Israel does not equate to Judaism. Critiquing Israeli government policies that perpetuate occupation and violence is a moral responsibility. Antisemitism is discrimination against Jewish people—not criticism of a nation-state. 

Criticism of Israel Is Not Antisemitism

Zionist Jews and their supporters argue that supporting Israel unconditionally is essential for Jewish safety. However, more and more Jews are rejecting the idea that Jewish security must come at the cost of another people’s freedom and right to life. True safety is rooted in justice and mutual dignity. Jewish safety can only be achieved when the human rights of Palestinians are respected and honoured equally. 

Jewish Safety Cannot be Built on Palestinian Oppression

    • Attend local events and protests organized by Jews for Palestine WA, Jewish Council of Australia, Palestinian Community of Western Australia, Friends of Palestine WA, and the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network.
    • Educate yourself and others about the history and current realities in Gaza.
    • Speak up in your community, synagogue, or family gatherings.
