What are your main areas of expertise?

My main areas of expertise are patching, hanging and finishing drywall, low voltage electricity (receptacle/switch replacement, lighting replacement etc.) and interior painting and decorating. I have also done some minor plumbing (toilet replacement, toilet leak repair) and installed various types of flooring ranging from classic tile to click and lock floating floors like lvp (luxury vinyl plank) and laminate flooring.

How do you handle changes to the project scope?

When dealing with larger projects and even small ones often times problems will reveal themselves as you go, forcing you to adapt and quickly change course. Its something I am very used to as it is happens frequently. When things like this happen its important to reassess the work and make changes to the plan accordingly. Any time something major changes that will effect the scope of work I always make sure to notify the customer and make sure I'm clear to continue working to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

What is your policy on safety and cleanliness?

Accepted Answer

As someone who works with a lot of potentially hazardous materials and dangerous power tools I take PPE very seriously. When using any power tool that can cut I use gloves, eye and ear protection. When dealing with mold or any fine dust that can damage the lungs I utilize HEPA filters and N-95 masks to minimize the risk of long term injury associated with dust inhalation of substances such as drywall and concrete.

In terms of cleanliness, I never leave a job without cleaning up after myself. In fact, I take great pride in leaving the work site cleaner than when I arrived. While cleaning up the site I will not only clean my mess, but anything else I can reasonably pick up, sweep, wipe or vacuum as well.

Do I need to supply the materials?

Accepted Answer

No, not necessarily. If you have the materials for the job already and don't want to waste money buying the same stuff again thats fine by me. As long as the materials are usable (in good shape, not expired etc.)  and correct for the job I have no problem using them and just charging for labor.

If you are worried about getting overcharged for materials please do not hesitate to ask me for a receipt of the materials and I will provide it. I do not charge more than the cost of the materials when I quote a job. I simply order them on your behalf to simplify the process. This ensures that I have the proper materials to do the job correctly and avoids any confusion regarding types of products or quantities.

Do you charge for estimates or trip fees?

Accepted Answer

Typically no I do not charge for normal estimates or trip fees. However, in the event a rushed estimate is required I would charge a rushed estimate fee ranging from $50 - $100 depending on how quick the estimate would need to be performed as well as distance.

A rushed estimate is defined as any estimate that would effect my schedule and thus hinder my ability to proceed with another job.
