Rodaremos en la hermosa ciudad de Cádiz, España, una ciudad con un flujo constante de eventos culturales, festividades, desfiles y turismo, y tras hablar con la Comisión de Cine de Cádiz, descubrimos que noviembre es el mes más tranquilo en la ciudad y, por lo tanto, el mejor para rodar una película en sus localizaciones y bellas calles (¡y en el que conseguimos el mejor precio para nuestra magnífica localización principal! El espectacular Café Royalty de Cádiz, donde transcurre el 90% de nuestra historia).

¿Por qué 2500 € es la cantidad mínima para invertir?

Tras analizar cientos de casos similares y hacer números, la cifra de 2500 € se presentó como la base más adecuada, ya que, en comparación con las decenas y cientos de miles que se invierten en la producción cinematográfica tradicional, no es una cifra tan elevada para que casi cualquier persona, organización, empresa, cooperativa o sindicato pueda participar en la creación de un producto cultural del que sentirse orgulloso. Además, involucrar a muchos inversores pequeños en lugar de a unos pocos grandes distribuye los riesgos y minimiza las pérdidas en caso de que la película no tenga el rendimiento esperado; pero incluso en ese caso, tendrás una película, un fragmento de la cultura de esta época, que ha sido posible gracias al esfuerzo colectivo, algo que no todo el mundo puede decir.

¿Hay otra forma de apoyar el proyecto?

Sí, hay varias formas de apoyar esta película además de invertir. Quizás conozcas o formes parte de otra persona, organización, empresa, cooperativa, sindicato, o asociación que pueda estar interesada en invertir en la película, en cuyo caso puedes conectarnos y nos aseguraremos de mencionarte en los créditos. También lanzaremos una campaña de crowdfunding para financiar la recta final una vez que se haya asegurado la mayor parte de la financiación de la producción, por lo que puedes unirte a nuestra lista de correo para que te avisemos cuando se ponga en marcha. E incluso si no puedes aportar ni un solo céntimo a la película (lo entendemos, son tiempos difíciles), siempre puedes interactuar y compartir nuestro contenido en las redes sociales, ¡ser un embajador/a de la película!

¿Por qué tengo que transferir mi inversión a la cuenta bancaria de la producción (en lugar de firmar un compromiso)?

Debido a la nueva normativa, para poder obtener un anticipo de la desgravación fiscal española y acceder a financiación adicional para la finalización del proyecto, tenemos que demostrar que ya hemos recaudado la mayor parte de los fondos. Pero tranquilo, tu inversión está segura en caso de que la producción no pueda seguir adelante por cualquier motivo. Según el acuerdo de inversión, no utilizaremos ni un céntimo de la cuenta de la producción hasta que alcancemos la cantidad necesaria para poner en marcha la producción, y tu inversión te será devuelta íntegramente si la producción no puede comenzar. Recibirás actualizaciones trimestrales con extractos bancarios, en los que los únicos movimientos que verás serán de la cuenta de la producción a la cuenta de ahorros, y de vuelta.

¿Qué cantidad necesitáis para hacer la película?

Nuestro plan es recaudar los 750.000€ presupuestados para hacer la película por nuestros propios medios, pero (¿solo?) necesitamos 550.000€ para poner en marcha la producción. Con 550.000€ tenemos la opción de obtener automáticamente los fondos restantes a través de un adelanto del incentivo fiscal español mediante un préstamo de nuestro banco (Triodos) y el programa europeo CREA Media. Pero, de nuevo, lo ideal sería evitar los préstamos para mantener nuestras finanzas lo más saneadas posible.

¿Qué pasa si no se alcanza ese objetivo?

Si para septiembre de 2026 no hemos recaudado los 550.000€ necesarios para iniciar la producción, tendrás la opción de reclamar la devolución de tu dinero, que te será reembolsado íntegramente, o (si sigues confiando en el proyecto) elegir mantenerlo en la cuenta de la producción un año más, ya que estamos decididos a hacer esta película y lo volveremos a intentar en noviembre de 2027.

¿Cuál es el plan de contingencia si la película se pasa del presupuesto?

Como se explica en respuestas anteriores, no gastaremos ni un céntimo hasta que sepamos que tenemos (en efectivo o acordado) lo que necesitamos para iniciar la producción (al menos 550.000€), lo que incluye una partida de contingencias de 69.000€ (9% del presupuesto) contemplada en el presupuesto, por lo que cualquier gasto inesperado por encima de esta reserva saldrá de nuestros propios bolsillos, empezando por nuestros salarios (el del director y el del productor) durante la producción.

¿Cuál es el calendario para el estreno y la recuperación de la inversión?

Si todo va según lo previsto, la película estará terminada y en el circuito comercial en marzo de 2027. En el escenario ideal, los inversores deberían recuperar su inversión en el verano de 2027 y obtendrán un rendimiento del 20% de su inversión en un periodo que abarca desde el estreno oficial hasta 10 años después de dicho estreno.

¿Cuál es el presupuesto de la película y por qué es tan elevado? ¿O en qué se gasta el dinero?

El presupuesto preliminar es de 750K€. La mayor parte se destina a salarios de equipo y reparto durante los meses de preproducción, producción y posproducción y, al tratarse de una película de época, la siguiente parte se destina a los departamentos de diseño (localizaciones, vestuario, atrezo, etc.). Hay ciertas cantidades que hemos tenido que calcular con importes provisionales, como los honorarios de nuestros principales actores, ya que estas se negociarán una vez que la producción sepa con certeza que seguirá adelante, y sus disponibilidad condicionará sus tarifas; para ello, hemos fijado límite presupuestario de 1 millón, por lo que tendremos que acordar y negociar cualquiera de esas tarifas dentro de ese límite. ¿Cuál es el retorno sobre inversión y la cascada de ingresos propuestos?

El rendimiento de la inversión es del 20 %, por lo que, si inviertes 2.500 €, recuperarás tus 2.500€ durante la fase de recuperación del presupuesto de la cascada de ingresos y 500€ (el 20 % de 2500 €) en la fase de beneficios de la cascada. We are shooting in beautiful Cadiz, Spain, which is a city with a constant flow of cultural events, festivities, parades, and tourism, and after talking with Cadiz Film Commission we found out November is the quietest month in Cadiz, and therefore the best one to shoot a film in its locations and streets (and the one where we get the best price for our gorgeous main location!)

Why is 2500€ is the minimum amount to invest?

After looking at hundreds of similar case studies and running the numbers, the 2500€ figure became the most appropriate base-line as, even though it can be a hefty figure for some, when compared to the tens and hundreds of thousands invested in film production, it's not that large of a figure for almost any individual, organization, company, cooperative, or union to be part of creating a cultural artifact to be proud of. Additionally, involving many smaller investors instead of fewer large ones spreads the risks and minimizes losses in scenarios where the film doesn't perform as expected; but even in that case, you will still have a film, a piece of entertainment, a fragment of this era's culture, that was made possible thanks to you, something not everyone can say.

Are there other ways to support the film?

Yes, there are several ways you can support this film other than investing 2500€ or more in it. You might now of another person, organization, company, union or association that might be interested in investing 2500€ and more in the film, and in that case you can connect us with them, we'll be sure to acknowledge you in the credits. We will also launch a crowdfunding for finish-line funding once the bulk of production funding is secured, so you can join our mailing list to get notified when that takes off. And even if you can't put a single cent in the film (we get it, times are hard), you can always interact and share our social media content, be a cheerleader and an ambassador to the film!

Why do I have to transfer my investment into the production's bank account (instead of pledging it)?

Due to new regulations, in order for us to be able to get an advancement of the Spanish tax incentive and access additional finish-line funding, we have to prove we've already raised most of the funds. But don't fret, your investment is safe in case the production can't move forward for whatever reason. As per the investment agreement, we won't use a cent from the production company account until we reach the 550K€ amount necessary to kickstart production, and your investment will be refunded wholly if the production isn't able to move forward. You'll receive quarterly updates with bank statements, where the only movements you'll see are from the production bank account to the production’s savings account (to yield some petty cash), and back.

What is the amount you need to make the film?

Our plan is to raise the 750K€ budgeted to make the film by our own means, but we would (only) need 550K€ to kickstart production. With 550K€ we have the option to automatically get the remaining funds through the Spanish tax incentive via loan through our bank and the European CREA Media Program. But, again, ideally we would love to avoid loans to keep our finances as neat as possible.

What if you don't reach that target?

If by September 2026 we haven’t raised the 550K€ needed to kickstart production, you’ll have the option of claiming back your money, which will be refunded wholly, or (if you still support the project) choose to keep it in the production’s account one more year, as we are set on making this film! and would be trying again for November 2027.

What’s the contingency plan if the film goes over budget?

As explained in questions above, we won’t spend a cent until we know we have (in cash or agreed) what we need for filming (at least 550K€), which includes a contingency pot of 69K€ (9% of the budget) accounted for in the budget, so any unexpected expense over the contingency will come out of our own pockets, starting with our salaries (director’s and producer's) during the production.

What’s the timeline for release and investor recoupment?

If everything goes to plan, the film will be completed and on the market circuit by March 2027. In the ideal scenario, investors should be recouping their investment by summer 2027, and will be getting their 20% return on investment within a period from official public release till 10 years after said release.

What is the budget of the film and why is it so much? Or where is the money being spent?

Our preliminary budget has given us the figure of 750K€, of which, believe it or not, the bulk of goes for salaries for the crew and cast during the months of pre-production, production and post-production, and, being a period film, the next chunk goes to the design departments (locations, costumes, props, etc). There are concrete amounts that we had to calculate with place-holder amounts, these are the fees for our main talent, as we still don’t have final figures for all the cast members we’d like, as these will be negotiated once the production knows for certain it’ll move forward, and their agendas will condition their rates; for this we’ve set a budget ceiling of 1M, so we’ll have to negotiate any of those rates within that limit. What is the proposed return on investment and income waterfall?

The return on investment is 20%, so if, for example, you invest 2500€, you’ll recoup your 2500€ during the budget recoupment phase of the income waterfall and 500€ (20% of 2500€) in the profit phase of the waterfall. You can consult the waterfall in the Investment Framework Agreement.
