At today's federal court hearing in State of Michigan v. DHS, the Attorney General's office told the Court they are "cautiously optimistic" about reaching a stipulated agreement with DHS — terms that would allow construction at the 7525 Cogswell warehouse to begin July 1. The alternative is a contested preliminary injunction hearing. AG staff signaled that what they hope to secure from DHS is a written commitment that the warehouse will not be used as a detention camp. A written commitment from a lawless agency is not worth the paper it's printed on.
In just five short weeks, DHS is on track to start construction of a massive facility in Romulus, with the support of the Attorney General’s Office, that will be used to scale violence into our communities and target immigrants across Michigan and the Midwest.
