Tell me about yourself

I have lived in Mt. Juliet my whole life, and most of my family still lives here as well. I have 2 boys, ages 4 and 8, who you will probably see while I'm on the campaign trail. I'm a member of Grace United Methodist and our family is involved with the cub scouts through Grace, where I serve as fundraising chair and charter org rep. 
I've been a registered nurse for over 10 years, working with cancer patients since graduating from nursing school. In my current role, I work with patients throughout their cancer journey and help them to understand their disease, manage side effects, and connect with local resources for assistance. 
I never have a chance to get bored, but I love every minute! I am passionate about making this community a better place for our children.

Why are you running for commissioner?

Wilson County has always been home to me. I grew up here, and now I'm raising two children in our local school system. My experiences as a parent and a nurse have made one thing very clear: local government decisions matter, and they should be guided by the real, everyday needs of the people they affect. 
I'm running for County Commission to bring a practical, compassionate perspective to local leadership and to help ensure Wilson County continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

The maps for each district can be confusing, so I always recommend using this online tool to search your address. It should show you which district/zone you are in for commissioner and school board:

Question 4

What do you mean by "People, not Politics"?

Accepted Answer

Too often, residents feel unheard or disconnected from the decision-making process of local government. Representatives spend more time coordinating with their political party than they do listening to their constituents. 
I believe our county government works best when commissioners are focused on real needs, practical solutions, and transparency - rather than personal or political agenda. As Commissioner, I would answer only to the residents of District 3, and their wishes for the future of our community.

Question 5

How does your experience as a nurse help prepare you to act as commissioner?

Accepted Answer

As a nurse, I am constantly in problem-solving mode. When faced with an issue, I naturally think outside the box, consider all possible outcomes, and evaluate risks vs benefits. And I do this while managing the pressure of working with human lives. 
My role as a nurse has also instilled in me a new approach to empathy and empowerment. I have a better understanding of those who disagree with me, and how to consider their unique perspective. 
In my current role, I spend countless hours trying to connect patients with local resources for financial, emotional, and practical support. I've seen the diverse needs of our current population, and I will make sure those in need also have a voice.
