Install plugin:

You can install the Neurapix plugin free of charge from our website. Make sure that Adobe Lightroom Classic (LrC) is installed on your computer. You will find the plugin functionalities later in Lightroom under ‘Library’ > ‘Additional module options’.

Log in to Lightroom:

Open Lightroom, click on File > Plugin Manager and enter your Neurapix login details in the Neurapix area. You only need to log in once. Now you can use Neurapix!

Which Lightroom slider values does the Neurapix AI analyse in order to learn my image processing style?

The Neurapix AI analyzes numerous image settings in Lightroom. These include the areas of white balance, tonal value, presence, HSL and calibration with their various controls. In principle, all setting options are analysed for each training data set and applied individually during processing.

Yes, a Neurapix license can be used on two computers. However, you can only actively edit on one computer at a time.

How many images do I need to create my own SmartPreset/profile?

If you use the ‘Kickstart’ option for SmartPreset creation, you can train your own AI with just 20 training images. If you have enough images to hand, we recommend regular creation with at least 500 sample images in your style, as this can lead to even better results. Basically, the more data, the better for the AI – but only as long as the photos have been edited consistently.

Which of the two creation options should I use?

Creating your own SmartPreset is fast and easy, with two options:

Kickstart is ideal for getting started, testing a new style, or handling one-off jobs. With just 20 edited images, your SmartPreset is ready in about ten minutes. Import a shoot with more than 20 RAW files into Lightroom, choose Kickstart, and Neurapix will select 20 representative images for you to edit. Based on those edits, it creates your SmartPreset and applies the learned style to the rest of the shoot.

Regular creation is best for established styles. Using 500 fully edited images, it creates a more accurate SmartPreset. It’s ready in one to two hours via Neurapix servers, or in one to two days locally with Neurapix Unlimited.

What should I look out for when creating a SmartPreset?

The key to a good SmartPreset is a consistent style. This means the processing should be as uniform as possible across the entire dataset, i.e., across all included shoots. ‘Outliers’ in the editing style can confuse the AI and lead to undesirable results—similar to how a human editor would struggle when shown different sample templates.

You should also make sure that you only make minor changes to the calibration and gradation curves within a SmartPreset, as these settings can have a strong influence on the other slider values.

Basically, the more images you add to a SmartPreset in your consistent target style, the better it will be.

What exactly is uploaded to Neurapix’s servers?

Neurapix uses pre-processed DNG files to generate SmartPresets. Pre-processed images are uploaded for server processing, enabling the AI to examine the largest possible dynamic range. In this way, the file size could be reduced to a few KB per image. As a result, only small amounts of data are uploaded or downloaded, even for large photo shoots.

For local processing, the AI uses heavily processed vectors (a few hundred numbers per image) from which images cannot be reconstructed.

How do I create a black and white SmartPreset?

In the classic creation of a color SmartPreset (at least 500 images), the B/W style is automatically additionally created, provided there are at least 20 edited B/W images included.
Those who wish to specifically create just a B/W SmartPreset can use the “Kickstart” option to create their own look in a few minutes.
Only 20 images need to be exemplarily edited.
As usual, photographers can create as many of their own B/W SmartPresets as they want, free of charge.

How long does it take to create a SmartPreset?

Accepted Answer

The creation time depends on several factors, such as current server load (queue) and the number of uploaded images. Under normal conditions, creating a SmartPreset takes between one and a half and three hours, though it may be faster or slower in some cases.

Preparing a SmartPreset for local processing as part of Neurapix Unlimited can take up to two days. In all cases, you’ll receive an email notification as soon as your SmartPreset is ready to use.

Can I improve my SmartPreset?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can continuously make it better. First, edit your images with your SmartPreset. If you make manual adjustments while reviewing the results, we recommend always using the "Send Corrections" function (formerly: "Refine SmartPreset").

Simply select the entire catalog with the final images - the AI can recognize your adjusted photos. Then, in Adobe Lightroom Classic, go to Library > Plug-in Extras > Send Corrections.

Question 15

I have sent corrections to refine my SmartPreset: When will they be taken into account?

Accepted Answer

Corrections you send are not applied to your SmartPreset in real time. However, it is regularly refined. The exact timing depends on various factors, especially the number of newly uploaded (corrected) photos.

You can see in your user account how many corrected images are still needed until the next refinement. Once the critical threshold is reached, your SmartPreset is automatically queued on the Neurapix servers. The update process itself then takes about one to two days.

Can I send corrections for a purchased SmartPreset?

No, but you can easily create your own SmartPreset based on a purchased one, which you can then further refine or adjust.

My editing style has changed - what should I do?

Accepted Answer

In this case, we recommend creating a new SmartPreset for your new style. If the AI receives different styles as input for learning your editing style, it can no longer deliver consistent results.

Unlike other providers, Neurapix lets you create an unlimited number of SmartPresets - always free of charge.

Alternatively, you can use the "Adjust SmartPreset" function to manually adjust the basic settings of your look with just a few clicks (see below).

Can I change a SmartPreset manually?

Yes, with the "Adjust SmartPreset" function you can change the AI slider values of your SmartPresets in a few clicks and save them as a new base configuration.

To do this, first select photos that were edited with the SmartPreset you want to modify. Then, in Adobe Lightroom Classic, go to Library > Plug-in Extras > Adjust SmartPreset.

A window will open showing the selected sample images and the familiar Lightroom sliders. You can freely adjust these and then save them. Don't worry: you can always revert to the original SmartPreset version before the first adjustme

Can I also adjust purchased SmartPresets?

Yes, you can modify both your own and purchased SmartPresets from other photographers - as often as you like and at no cost.

If a seller modifies a SmartPreset, buyers will not receive these changes, since the style would then no longer match the one that was originally purchased.

However, AI improvements (via the "Send Corrections" function) are also applied to purchased SmartPresets.

The location where your images are edited initially depends on the pricing model you choose. If you pay per image, editing is done on Neurapix’s servers in Germany. In this case, your photos are uploaded in an intelligently preprocessed format and, after editing, downloaded again as a complete event. Processing speed is up to 1,000 images per minute.

With Neurapix Unlimited, editing happens locally on your own computer. The speed depends on your hardware. Unlike server-based editing, results appear in “waves” of multiple images (batches), which means the first results are available after just a few seconds. Neurapix therefore offers real-time image editing, and no downloading of results is required.

How does Neurapix AI image cropping work?

The Neurapix AI has trained with many millions of images in order to select the best possible image section. It has analysed how real photographers have cropped their photos in direct comparison to the original motif. When cropping, Neurapix takes into account numerous common techniques such as the ‘golden ratio’ or ‘rule of thirds’. In addition, it has found aesthetically pleasing crops that do not follow any fixed rules and can apply them.

Anyone who uses their own cropped images when creating or refining a SmartPreset will automatically receive an individually trained AI crop: as soon as 500 of your own crops per image orientation (landscape/portrait format) are included in the personal data set, the upgrade will be activated. Users will then automatically receive an email.

How do I edit my photos in black and white with Neurapix?

Using a B/W SmartPreset works in exactly the same way as with a colour SmartPreset: After clicking on ‘Edit images’ in the Lightroom menu, the B/W style is simply selected and used as an independent SmartPreset as usual. If you have first edited a shoot in colour, you can then simply edit it again with a B/W SmartPreset (using virtual copies if necessary).

Neurapix integrates Adobe’s AI masking into the existing workflow. This can be accessed in Lightroom Classic in the ‘Develop’ module under ‘Presets’> ‘Adaptive’. From now on, they are automatically available for Neurapix and can be easily selected during image processing.

How can I achieve the best possible consistency in my editing results?

For the best possible consistency, simply tick the "Optimize consistency" checkbox in the Neurapix editing dialog. Our AI will then work even more like a human and compare each image with all other editing results in the Lightroom collection. White balance and exposure, for example, will become even more consistent.

In the "Neurapix Unlimited" plan, the optional "Optimize consistency" feature is included at no extra cost. With the "Pay-per-Picture" model, there is an additional charge of up to – as with all optional features – 1 cent per image.

Go through your images page by page using mouse or arrow keys and mark your favorites. Keyboard shortcuts help speed things up.

Once you’re done, click “Close” — all selections are instantly synced back to Lightroom.
