Is posting on TikTok really as lucrative as it seems? We’ve done the research: here’s what you need to know about earning money on TikTok in 2026.

Knowing the difference between Instagram’s restrict versus block features helps you determine how to limit interactions with your account.
Restricting someone on Instagram hides their comments and moves their DMs to your Message Requests folder, all without unfollowing them or letting them know. Blocking goes further: it makes your entire account invisible to that person, removes them as a follower, and cuts off all contact. Both features are free and reversible, but they serve very different purposes.
If you're dealing with unwanted attention but don't want the drama of a full block, restrict is the lighter option. Here's exactly how the two features compare across every part of Instagram.
Instagram gives you three separate tools for managing unwanted interactions. Here's the quick version:
| Action | What it does | They'll know? |
|---|---|---|
| Restrict | Hides their comments, moves their DMs to requests, hides your active status from them | No |
| Block | Makes your account completely invisible to them, removes them as a follower | Likely (they can't find your profile) |
| Mute | Hides their posts and/or Stories from your feed | No |
Restrict and block control how someone interacts with your account. Muting controls what you see from someone else. The features work independently, so you can mute someone and restrict them at the same time.
The existing comparison between restrict and block covers five key areas. Here's how each one works in practice.
When you restrict someone, they can still comment on your posts. The difference is that their comments are only visible to them. You'll need to tap "See comment" to read what they wrote, then choose "Approve" to make it visible to your other followers. You won't get notifications for their comments either.
Blocked accounts can't see your posts at all, so commenting isn't possible.
A restricted person can still visit your profile, search your username, and see your likes and comments on other people's posts. From their perspective, nothing has changed.
A blocked person can't find your profile. Your username won't appear in search results, and your posts are hidden from every shared space on the app.
Messages from a restricted person skip your inbox and land in your Message Requests folder instead. Instagram won't notify you, and the sender won't see read receipts even if you open the message. If a restricted person is in one of your group chats, Instagram will flag it.
Blocked accounts lose access to your profile entirely, so they can't send you DMs.
Restricted accounts can still view your Instagram Stories. If they react or reply, the message goes to your Message Requests folder. You can check who viewed your Instagram Story and they'll appear in the viewer list like normal.
Blocked accounts can't see your Stories at all.
You'll still receive notifications when a restricted account tags you in posts or mentions you in their Stories. You can then decide whether to keep the tag or remove yourself.
Blocked accounts can't tag you in anything.

Choosing between restrict and block depends on the situation. Here are some common scenarios:
Use restrict when:
Use block when:
If you're unsure, start with restrict. You can always escalate to a block later if needed.
Muting is the quietest option. When you mute someone on Instagram, their posts and/or Stories stop appearing in your feed, but you stay connected. They can still see your content, comment on your posts, and message you normally.
The muted person won't know. You can mute posts only, Stories only, or both. It's useful for that friend who posts 15 Stories a day or an acquaintance whose content just isn't for you.
To mute someone, go to their profile, tap "Following," and select "Mute." Choose what you'd like to mute and you're done.
There are four ways to restrict an account on Instagram. Pick whichever is most convenient.
Instagram also gives you the option to block their future accounts. This is helpful if someone tends to create new profiles. For the full walkthrough on undoing a block, see our guide on how to unblock someone on Instagram.
Keep in mind that unblocking someone doesn't automatically re-follow them, and they won't be re-added as your follower. Both of you would need to follow each other again.
It's not always obvious, but there are signs.
Signs you've been blocked:
Signs you've been restricted:
There's no official notification for either action. Instagram keeps both restrict and block private to protect the person who used them.
Whether you run a personal account or manage a brand, keeping your space positive takes some effort. Here's what works:
