Do I need a Blue Card?

Accepted Answer

If you are a parent/carer volunteer, the answer is generally no, although there are a few exceptions to this (see question below).

If you are a community member of the P&C, you will need to apply for a blue card. This includes relatives of a student who are not the parent or carer, such as grandparents.

Question 2

What are the exceptions for parent volunteers that mean I would need a Blue Card?

Accepted Answer

•	any member of the Executive Committee of the P&C
•	parents volunteering with children not including their own child (eg. helping with a Year 5 pottery class when your own child is in Year 3)
•	where the parent may require close personal contact with a child other than their own (such as changing clothes or bathing)
•	parents who are attending an overnight camp/excursion

Question 3

I already have a Blue Card. What do I need to do?

Accepted Answer

You need to be linked on our P&C register if you are volunteering with us. Simply provide us with your Blue Card number and DOB and we will link you. You can either include it on your membership form, or email us with the information. Once we add you to our register, you details will be automatically updated for as long as you are linked.

Question 4

I don't have a Blue Card. How do I apply?

There is a button on our link tree that takes you to the application information page or you can search for “Apply for Blue Card” in a browser. This will allow you to register with the Blue Card system. When you have completed your registration, you will need to provide us with your registration number and DOB so you can be linked to our Blue Card register.

Question 5

I have registration number for Blue Card. How do I now apply to get an actual card?

Accepted Answer

Once you have sent us your registration details, and we have added you to our register, we will email to confirm the link is ready and you will be able to apply for a volunteer Blue Card. When your application for the card is approved, our register is automatically updated with your Blue Card information.

Question 6

Do I need anything special to apply?

Accepted Answer

You will need a Customer Reference Number (CRN) from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) before you apply for your blue or exemption card to prove your identity. This should just be a matter of providing your driver's license or similar photo identification.

Also note that your identification photo needs to be less than 7 years old to be able to proceed. If you do not have a CRN, or need to update your photo, contact TMR. There is no fee to get a CRN or have your photo updated.

Is there a fee for a Blue Card?

Volunteer Blue Cards are free. However, you must be linked to a register to apply for a volunteer Blue Card. See the question about applying.
