About my art
The glass blocks were rescued from a London skip and had been with us for over 40 years, moving house and gathering dust wherever we lived.
On retirement, we built ourselves a garden room and, after cleaning the blocks, decided to include the coloured ones; blue, yellow, green and red, to add a sparkle to the room.
I had some ideas for the remaining clear blocks but, as soon as I started applying paint, I realised the blocks had taken over with an energy that surprised and excited me.
Images evolved as they rippled through the glass. They have taken me to places and memories half-forgotten; personal yet universal.
The photographic images generated by the blocks add an infinite number of dimensions to that object itself.
Each image is unique, in terms of colour, light, angle and medication. I have been living with Parkinson's for the last 15 years, it is part of me and my art.
I have recently acquired some more blocks and can't wait to find out what they reveal.
