Marking the anniversary of the 2019 debut story, AJ Conley: First String is the first of a planned four-book franchise. Set in Clayton, Indiana between 2010 and 2020, this 37-chapter epic explores control and autonomy rather than simple abuse. It features a conservative-Republican perspective and an expansive cast of over fifty characters.

The narrative follows three boys—AJ Conley, Blake Donovan, and Levi Whitman—from highly dysfunctional homes. They form a pact to escape their town via baseball scholarships. To avoid CPS intervention and stay together, they mask their trauma using athletic structures and social biases at Stanton High School.

As they struggle with C-PTSD, attachment anxiety, and arrested development, they are aided by Cody Foster, a neighborhood boy eager to fit in, and Wyatt Dalton, an OCPD team captain who manages their public image. By the epilogue, survival drives every character into moral ambiguity, where no one remains entirely good or bad.
