You have the legal right to film police and immigration officers if they are in a public place + if the filming does not impede the performance of their duties.

👉 STAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE. If asked to step back, take a step back while repeating: “I am exercising my right to record and document”

👉 IF OFFICERS GET TOO CLOSE. Say in a calm, audible voice: “I am stepping back and have the right to record”

👉 PROTECT VIDEO CONTENT ON YOUR PHONE. Make sure your phone is passcode protected—not thumbprint or face recognition

👉 FOCUS YOUR RECORDING ON OFFICERS. Record all the way through the incident. Narrate what you see. Say the date + time.

👉 DON'T GO LIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA. For the privacy + safety of people being detained

TAKE ACTION ANYWHERE IN THE U.S.

All people in the U.S., regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. 

The Immigration Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has Red Cards that give examples of how people can exercise these rights and come in wallet card size so people can carry it at all times.

Adopt a Day Labor Corner is a call to action from the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) for communities across the nation to join together as an act of care and resistance in the face of attacks on the migrant community. 

Adopting a Corner means committing, as a neighbor, ally, or community member, to accompany, observe, and actively support a place where day laborers gather to look for work. 

It's an act of solidarity that helps protect rights, prevent abuses, and strengthen the fabric of the community.

Washington Neighborhood Defense (WAND) is a community group working to educate WA State businesses about employers’ constitutional rights in the event of an ICE raid.

They provide businesses with free resources and tools from state and national immigrant-led rights organizations.
