Our honeymoon at Secrets Papagayo was absolutely amazing and truly felt like paradise. From the moment we arrived, the service was top tier. Everyone we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel at home. The resort itself is beautiful. There are definitely a lot of hills, but it honestly was never an issue because the shuttles were always readily available and would take you anywhere you needed to go throughout the resort. We never felt inconvenienced by it at all. One person who especially stood out to us was Allen at check-in. He was phenomenal. From the very beginning, he made our honeymoon feel incredibly special and made sure we were taken care of. Every time we saw him during our stay, he greeted us warmly and made a point to check in with us. Those little personal touches made such a difference and really added to the experience. Secrets Papagayo also does an amazing job celebrating special occasions. Being there for our honeymoon felt truly special, and the entire experience was romantic, relaxing, welcoming, and unforgettable. We could not have asked for a better place to spend our honeymoon. The beautiful surroundings, incredible service, wonderful staff, and personal attention made this a trip we will always remember. We would absolutely recommend Secrets Papagayo to anyone looking for a relaxing, romantic getaway in paradise. Adult only is also a great perk!

First and foremost, Secrets Papagayo is a very intimate all-inclusive resort. The difference here versus a large resort is every room and venue has a view with calming ocean waves. The Staff are genuinely friendly and helpful with a staff-to-guest ratio some of the best we’ve seen. Our wait time between arrival/check-in and vacation relaxation was minimal. Secret’s location on the Culebra Bay is excellent; all the benefits of sea life, but the protective cove provides very moderate waves, most beneficial for water activities, of which several guided options are included. Secrets is also a mere 30mins from LIR airport in moderate traffic, one of the closest oceanfront resorts in Guanacaste. In 2026 this is a $50 Taxi ride just outside the door for Arrivals. Our first visit to Costa Rica, and stay at an all-inclusive resort, Secrets Papagayo has set a standard for us for future resort stays. PROS: The accommodations are setup as duplex bungalows, with no hotel room feel. We stayed in the oceanfront 100 section, just steps from the main pools and restaurants. The room was spacious, bedding very comfy with multiple pillows and heavy duvet. A well laid out bathroom space with fluffy robes provided. Unique was the dumbwaiter-type door for room service was a neat touch. There are several ’upgrades’ available, like lobster tail, specialty wine pairings, romantic dinner service, but unless you would like something special there are no nickel-and-dime charges at checkout. We enjoyed the added amenities of the Preferred level lounge; various snacks options throughout the day and a higher-end specialty menu for drinks then other resort locations. CONS: The resort is smaller than many others in the area, but shaded sun loungers and cabanas fill up fairly quick. Same with smaller restaurants. Restaurant hours were unclear; we found a couple instances where the app didn’t reflect actual open times. There is some deferred maintenance throughout the property, keeping it from feeling like the full five star experience. The rooms and resort is generally clean but also not five star. Some furnishings showed wear, and a reported room repair item stayed unresolved during our stay. We are regular cruisers having sailed with several different cruise lines. The food was very similar to what we’ve had on some standard level cruise lines. Overall, although we enjoyed our experience at Secrets, but we didn’t feel the price was justifiable for the amenities. Room rates are 20-30% above cruising in NCLs ‘The Haven’ (NCL) or MSCs ‘Yacht Club’ exclusive areas of the ship. Secrets Papagayo is a great place to relax in paradise by the ocean. It isn’t what we’d define as luxury, but it is very intimate and provides a romantic, kid-free experience.

Secrets Papagayo Costa Rica is one of the best adults-only resorts in Guanacaste for couples looking for a romantic getaway. As a professional proposal and couples photographer in Costa Rica, I've had the opportunity to photograph beautiful proposal experiences and couple sessions here, and it's always an incredible location. The breathtaking ocean views, secluded beaches, tropical landscapes, and unforgettable sunsets create the perfect setting for a surprise proposal or romantic photos. The staff is welcoming, the resort is beautifully maintained, and every visit feels peaceful and exclusive. If you're planning a honeymoon, anniversary, romantic vacation, or surprise proposal in Costa Rica, I highly recommend Secrets Papagayo. It's truly one of the most romantic destinations in the area.
