A permalink, or permanent link, is a website address (URL) that doesn’t change during its lifetime after publication.

Detailed explanation

As the name implies, permalinks are unchanged web address links. Ideally, permalinks should have web addresses that are easy for target audiences to remember and understandable for search engines, such as Google.

For example, “linktr.ee/blog/tik-tok-filters/” is better than “linktr.ee/blog/post-id?=8341jdgklxnp” since it’s simple and SEO-friendly.

After publishing content on a web page, try not to change the permalink. Doing so could be detrimental to SEO as external hyperlinks won't be able to redirect to modified permalinks.

Instead, users will find themselves on a 404 error page or a broken link. This could lead to a high bounce rate. When Google identifies a dip in traffic, it lowers your page authority and organic ranking to avoid sending visitors to a broken page.

If you must change the permalink in extreme cases, use a 301 redirect to avoid losing web traffic. Whatever the use case, remember, concise and search-engine-optimized hyperlinking is the way to go.
