Question 1

What is O’Hara Horology?

Accepted Answer

O’Hara Horology is me, Jack O’Hara. It’s my watch content and review channel, dedicated to real-world, hands-on timepieces. My taste usually revolves around “tool” watches, but at the end of the day I enjoy all watches and you will see a variety of different watches featured on my videos!

Question 2

Best Starter Watch?

Accepted Answer

My go to is the Citizen BN0150. Street price is about $230. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more durable, all around great watch for the money… but its not mechanical. For a mechanical starter watch, a Seiko 5 is likely your best bet. Mine was a SRPD93. There are also microbrands that usually offer good bang-for-buck, alongside Chinese watches. Although I’m not necessarily an advocate for chinese watches like San Martin, they do offer great value for a low entry price for someone getting into watches. Whatever you do, DONT BUY A FAKE.

Question 3

Top 5 Budget Divers Under $500?

Accepted Answer

The first requirement is that the watch meets ISO6425 certification, making it a “real” dive watch. From there, I recomenx the following five divers:
-Orient Kamasu: In-house automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and nice colorways
-Citizen BN0150: Best grab-and-go option because it never needs a battery. Light-powered & virtually bulletproof for real underwater or work use
-Seiko King Turtle: Ceramic bezel, sapphire crystal, waffle dial, and Seiko heritage
-Citizen NY0040: Now discontinued, but available easily on secondary markets. One of the best, durable automatic dive watches you can buy at $200
-Casio Duro: No, its not ISO certified. But for $60, its hard to get a better overall watch for the money from a legacy brand
