Founder Edition: A Note from EarlEarl YiPaperbackFounder Edition is Earl’s first book and the origin story of Korean Culture Korean (KCK). It begins with a small curiosity: a quiet attraction to English, British pronunciation, and a country she had never lived in. What followed was not a straightforward path towards fluency, but a long personal journey shaped by self-directed learning, friendships, teaching, mistakes, reflection, and the gradual discovery of a life that felt more fully her own. This is not a language textbook, nor is it a conventional success story. Earl does not present herself as someone who mastered English and arrived at a perfect destination. Instead, she writes about uncertainty, hesitation, late beginnings, and the courage to keep learning. Through language, she met people from different countries, began telling her own stories, discovered parts of herself that had remained hidden, and eventually became an English teacher. Her students, friends, and everyday experiences taught her that communication is not an individual performance, that grammar should serve experience, and that meaningful learning ultimately reaches people. The book also follows the formation of Earl’s identity as both Yeonju and Earl. What initially felt like two separate selves gradually became one fuller person. Her preferences, humour, British accent, teaching philosophy, home, work, and relationships all became part of the same life. The result is a reflective memoir about personal growth without the usual language of self-improvement. It does not ask readers to become someone better. It invites them to become more fully themselves. Founder Edition is presented as a bilingual edition. The Korean text appears alongside a British English adaptation written to read naturally as an English memoir rather than as a literal translation. Readers can move between the two languages, notice how tone and rhythm shift, or simply follow the version that speaks to them most directly. The book also records the beginning of KCK, an educational project founded on a simple belief: language is more than a skill. It can help us build relationships, understand ourselves, and experience life more deeply and more fully. KCK was created not only to teach Korean, but to walk beside learners as they build their own Korean Life and discover their own Korean Self. Written for language learners, teachers, late bloomers, reflective readers, and anyone standing at the beginning of a new chapter, Founder Edition offers no grand formula. It offers a quiet companion. Its message is simple: small curiosities matter, mistakes are part of learning, and it is never too late to begin walking towards a life that feels like your own.
