Question 1

Are there any restrictions on what I can submit?

Accepted Answer

Some restrictions. Nudity and gore aren't allowed, and violence and weaponry (within reason) are discouraged. Content that could be considered controversial might be excluded.

If you're not sure whether your idea is allowed, please reach out to us to check before submitting.

Question 2

Can I submit artwork I made before the competition?

Accepted Answer

We can't exactly check, but we'd prefer art to be made specifically for the competition.

Question 3

Can I use AI?

Accepted Answer

No. Artworks containing generative AI will be disqualified. We also suggest you don't use AI for idea generation, as it defeats the purpose of the competition!

Question 4

Can I have a cash prize instead?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately we can only give the giftcards.

Question 5

What are some examples of the theme? What can I submit?

Accepted Answer

Anything you enjoy creating fits the theme! Here are a few random ideas...

- Learn how to knit. Attach your first, second, third, etc squares of knitting (in your favourite colours, if possible) to your canvas to show you learning!
- Divide your canvas into several sections. Spend a minute every day doodling something on your canvas with a ball-point pen until it's full.
- Experiment with finger-painting. Try to paint a self-portrait.
- Get some knick-knacks from an op shop, take them apart/break them, and glue the pieces to the canvas in a cool pattern.
- Make some friendship bracelets, each symbolising someone important in your life, and hang them from the canvas.

Question 6

What will headspace do with my submission?

Accepted Answer

We would love to display some of the art from this competition around the centre, but this is optional.

If you agree to let us display your art, you can choose whether we display it with your name or anonymously.

Question 7

What will happen to my submission? Can I have it back?

Accepted Answer

If you agree to let us display your art, you will be able to request it back from us at any time over the next year (until 11th of November, 2027). We can't guarantee that artwork still with us after a year will be able to be returned, so please make sure to collect it by then if you really love the artwork you're submitting.

Question 8

Am I allowed to get help from a friend/parent/teacher/etc?

Accepted Answer

You're welcome to get opinions or advice, but the work itself should be your own.

Question 9

Does my submission have to be mental health themed?

Accepted Answer

Nope! As long as you enjoy the process of creating the artwork, it's mental health themed enough.

Question 10

Do I have to be a headspace client?

Accepted Answer

Nope. You just have to be 12 to 25 years old.
